Poem: Jagged Route

Sometimes I feel
Like a lone ship
Traversing canals
Zigzagging
'cross the landscape

Of course, I have my crew
Or I am one of the crew
But who is steering this thing?

In poorer countries
Many are struggling to make it
Another day
Though I am in
A wealthy country
A world-class city
I am wrestling
With the next month
How will I
Get by?

The route twists
Left and right
At times circling
Back on itself
I'm on the captain's deck
Praying to an omnipotent
Until I realise
I'm talking to myself

Then I awake
And remember the truth
That it's all on me
It has always been
All on me

Tho' as insect crooners sang
In days of old
We get by
With a little help
From our friends

The jagged seaway
Continues onward
And so do I
