Back at the base, Ward was always daydreaming and waiting for the Avengers to get back from their mission. Because of this, he forgot to arm the base for the Delta Protocol. Just as Coulson expected, the base was under attack by an army of soldiers.
When one of the agent informed Ward about this, he quickly armed the base and agents with some firepower. Then, he asked an agent to be put in charge and Ward went away, no one knows where. Even though he went away, that agent quickly commanded everybody to put on their defense and ready for battle. Then, just as they readied, they heard a loud bang coming from the backdoor. It looks like the enemy attacked from the back of the base that is basically the base's weak spot. How did they know??
But anyways, when the rest of the team got to the back side of the base, the agents there have perished alongside with all their firepower and equipment.
After that, Ward went back towards the team. Ward said "What did I miss...... Oh....".
The whole team was literally disappointed at Ward and was filled with rage as their fellow friends had died for no good reason.
As the hijack was over, the Avengers and Coulson was back from the infiltration, ready to tell about what is happening when this accident popped up.
