Juno still remembered the day her mother died. Coincidentally, it was also the day Daryl and Michonne found them.

It happened after the world ended, of course. When the world lost all its color and instead it turned dark and grey.

Her parents, her two little sisters and she herself had been on the road for quite some time. They were all sweating like crazy underneath the Georgia heat and Juno's throat had been so dry that each time she tried to swallow, she winced.

At first, they'd had a car. A nice and white one, nothing too fancy. It had been able to carry all of them, but then it had ran out of gasoline in the middle of nowhere and they were forced to continue on foot.

Juno had never heard Mika complain so much, honestly.

It had felt like they'd been walking for weeks, but in reality it had only been a few days with small breaks in between.

After the first few days, Juno's father had found a little shack. It had come as a miracle, really, because the night was falling and thunder crackled in the sky.

Juno was so relieved to finally be able to rest up a little, she sat down on the dirty floor and extended her legs, pushing at them. They felt sore and tense.

Mika and Lizzie, her sisters, both sat down on each side of her and rested their little heads on her shoulders. They sighed and looked at their parents, talking in hushed voices somewhere deeper in the shack.

Juno was so exhausted that she didn't even try to listen in to what they were saying. Usually she was very curious, always getting into trouble for sticking her nose in things she wasn't supposed to, but now exhaustion really made itself known, so she closed her eyes and told herself she could rest for a little while.

She felt Mika's hand slowly grab hers and intertwine their fingers. "I'm scared, June." The little girl whispered. Her eyes were scanning the shack frantically, but she was also incredibly tired. Juno was surprised both of them hadn't fallen asleep yet.

Juno nodded, eyes still closed. "I know, Mika. But it's going to be okay. Mom and Dad are going to make it okay."

Lizzie, who had been quite up until then, nodded along with her big sister. "She's right, you know."

Mika, unable to not believe both her big sisters, blinked back her panicked tears and held onto Juno's hand, nodding. "Okay. I believe you."

All three of them went quiet again and finally, Juno fell asleep.

She didn't dream of much, which was a nice surprise. Mostly just flashes of everyday life before everything went to hell. Things like school, or picking her sisters up from sports activities.
