"You serious?" Monoma laughed."And what did the instructor say?"

"'I've never seen someone do something right so wrongly in my life'," Tetsutetsu mimicked the voice of his instructor.

Monoma cackled, head falling back on the luxurious chair he was sitting in."That's something only you could pull off, Tetsutetsu!"

"You're an idiot," Kendo droned.

Tetsutetsu instantly despaired at his friend seeing him so lowly.

"Way to kill the mood, Kendo," Monoma said, noticing Tetsutetsu. This little dynamic of theres was all fucked up. Really, how painful.

"What mood?!" Kendo snapped back, smacking Monoma upside the head. She huffed and planted her ass back down in her chair."Seriously, aren't we here because of our hybrids? Why are we just sitting here chatting and letting them be all alone?"

"Hey, this was all Monoma's idea!" Tetsutetsu put his hands up in surrender, instantly throwing his friend under the bus.

Of course it had been his idea. Including Shinsou, there were four hybrids in this house. Though lavish and large, just the thought of all of them being in the same room together made Monoma queasy. He had enough trouble with one, three others would surely make this room disgusting.

He knew he had made some kind of a promise to Shinsou to keep them together and away from the hybrids, but he just couldn't do it. The unexpected fourth hybrid made his head spin so much that he just promised Shinsou to make it up to him later.

Kendo gave him an angry and slightly suspicious look."Which reminds me...Why didn't we meet at your place, Monoma? I mean I'm fine doing it at my place, but don't we always meet at yours?"

It was true that Monoma liked hosting events at his place, if only to flaunt his wealth and further his ego. He had many rich delicacies and wanted to show them off to the slightly rich fools who attempted to gain his favor. But hybrids dirtying his house was a no go. He would have to burn his furniture afterwards just to get rid to the smell.

"Hitoshi's territorial," Monoma explained with a simple, preplanned lie."Humans are fine but other hybrids coming into his space pisses him off."

Tetsutetsu laughed."He's like a guard dog, but a cat!"

"Yup," Kendo nodded, staring Monoma down."Just a plain, simple house cat..."

She was onto something, that Monoma was sure of. He wasn't sure what exactly she wanted to uncover or for what purpose, but he wouldn't give her the chance. Whether it was his true relationship with Shinsou or his dislike of hybrids, he would hide it beautifully like the well seasoned liar he was.

"Surprising, I know," Monoma responded."My parents got him for me when I was younger, before hybrids were more sought after. They were all so plain and boring, I would've wanted something more exotic, but, in the end, I'm fine with what I got. Hitoshi is the only hybrid I could ask for."

"That's why you're not thinking about getting another?" Tetsutetsu asked."I thought for sure you'd have, like, at least five."

"I told you, Hitoshi's territorial," Monoma said again."If he came back from my parents place and smelled another hybrid in the house, he'd probably reject me as his owner."

The territorial ploy turned out to be very useful. It could cover so many areas as to why Monoma was so limited with his hybrid pair. He didn't touch other hybrids because he didn't want Shinsou to misunderstand. He didn't bring him outside because, other than hating the outdoors, he didn't want him hissing at others.

"How cold!" Tetsutetsu commented.

"I guess that's expected when you've had the hybrid since birth," Kendo mumbled, finally giving in. Perfect."Then shall we go see them? It's getting close to dinner, anyways."

"Yes!" Tetsutetsu jumped up."I'm sure Eijiro's getting hungry!"

"He's as large as you, makes sense," Monoma snarked, following after them.

Tetsutetsu's hybrid was a large wolf that held a lot of the same characteristics as its owner. Kendo's hybrids, on the other hand, were gentler than her and seemed to like to keep to themselves. Momo, a panther, and Jiro, a songbird. They were inseparable despite their predator and prey attitudes, so Kendo brought them both home.

Monoma wanted nothing to do with them.

"How's it going in here?" Kendo asked, walking into the open room they had left for the hybrids to socialize together.

The trained and owned hybrids perked at the scents of their owners. Shinsou took his time to look back at Monoma, the two of them locking eyes and simply staring at one another while the other hybrids moved to talk to their owners.

Monoma then realized how tired Shinsou's eyes looked. There was a hint of sadness quickly hidden away and he walked over to Monoma like the others.

To keep appearances, Monoma ruffled and pet Shinsou's hair, paying special attention to the hair near the nape of his neck which he had regrettably come to find Shinsou liked."Have you been having fun without me?" he asked."It's been awhile since you've met other hybrids, so I've been worried."

"It's been fun," Shinsou responded, but those his eyes said otherwise."Everyone's nice."

"That's good to hear." Monoma smiled at him, Shinsou giving in and rubbing against his hand. His tail curled around his leg in the way that silently showed how happy he was.

"C'mon, guys, let's go eat!" Tetsutetsu called."We're starving!" His hybrid next to him looked just as eager, tail wagging with fervor behind him.

"Don't be so impatient," Kendo snapped back."And the dining room isn't that way, it's over here."

Monoma and Shinsou followed slightly behind the bantering pair in front of them. Monoma smoothly slinked an arm around Shinsou's shoulders, pulling him in close. Shinsou tried not to act too startled.

"You look like you're gonna pass out, so we'll be leaving right after dinner," he whispered into his ear.

Shinsou's eyes widened at his words, realizing what they meant. He had failed. He didn't take into account how tiring it would be to interact with others and now he had failed Monoma.

"No, I can—"

"Shinsou," Monoma growled back, sharp and stone cold."I've made my decision."

He wanted to cry. He had tried his best, but was this really the end? Monoma was going to throw him away. Tomorrow, he would go back to the shelter and that was it.

What a painful dream this all was.
