Shinsou woke up alone the next morning. As expected, the gig was up.

He wondered if he would be allowed breakfast before he went, or if Monoma just wanted him out as soon as possible. Shinsou didn't bother to wait for the inevitable and left Monoma's room to go seek out his ride back.

He walked down the hall, steps sluggish and heart pounding a foreboding rhythm. He made it to the main entrance undisturbed, watching the usual morning hustle and bustle of the servants getting ready to clean the house while their master was out.

It was the last time Shinsou would be able to witness such a sight.

"Oh, good morning, Master Shinsou!" one of the maids greeted him."Would you like us to prepare you breakfast now?"

Shinsou looked down at her and blinked."Where's Monoma?"

"The Master has left for work already," the maid explained."Was there something you needed from him?"

So this would be a nighttime affair. That was fine with Shinsou, though he wished they could've gotten this done in the morning.

"No, that's fine," he spoke to the maid."Breakfast now sounds good."

"Right away!"

The rest of the day went on like that, Shinsou restlessly waiting for Monoma to come back and finally take him back to the shelter with whatever excuse he had conjured up with that lying mind of his.

He locked himself in his room, fearful of every little footstep or sound thinking it was someone to come take him away. Maybe Monoma didn't even want to look at him anymore and had just called the shelter or some hybrid control center to take him away like some feral beast.

Monoma hated hybrids, so he wouldn't be surprised by the coldness of such an action. Maybe this was all some way of playing with him, getting his hopes up and making him nervous so he could crush his spirit all over again. Shinsou was scared of what would happen, of what Monoma could do to him now that he had his heart.

Monoma might not have even realized the grip he had on him. Shinsou tried to play hard to get and stay strong against Monoma, but at his core he was a weak cat hybrid who was desperate for affection. He had never had any his whole life living in the shelter, or at least not the true affection of a hybrid and their owner, so he was weak to even the smallest touches Monoma graced him with.

He should've been stronger than this after attempting to build so many walls, but once he decided to fight back against Monoma's wish to take him back, those walls were discarded for the larger goal and now he wasn't sure what was even happening anymore.

Three days passed with Shinsou hiding in his room most of the time, and still he had yet to be taken back to the shelter. Shinsou hadn't seen Monoma once in that time and life in his home seemed to simply move on even with his unwanted presence. The staff acted the same to Shinsou as they did once he started conversing with them and Shinsou was given anything he asked for just as before.

Something wasn't right.

"Is Monoma out again?" Shinsou asked the head butler who always tended to Monoma.

"Yes." The butler nodded."It's been quite a busy week."

Oh, so that was it. Monoma probably just didn't have the time to take him back to the shelter.

Shinsou knew his schedule well enough now to understand how packed his weeks could be. Only Sundays did he give himself some time to rest and the occasional casual socializing.

So Sunday it was. That would be the day Shinsou finally went back to the shelter.

Except it wasn't.
