Summary: I couldn't help it... even after losing my precious Winston... I couldn't help but to save that poor mutt that was scavenging in my backyard. Call me a light-hearted idiot but I think this can work out.
The morning is bright and happy, the smell of breakfast wafting through the room and the sound of the morning news permeates the silence. Humming to herself, she sets the food bowl down onto the kitchen floor.
"Mutt, come here. It's time for breakfast."
Hearing the pitter-patter of feet on the wooden floor, she settles herself onto the island and started on her own breakfast. Watching as her newly acquired pet start to shyly lap at its food bowl, her attention turns to the laptop set in front of her.
"- has been missing for a week-"
And just before she could fully focus on what was being said, she felt the head of her pet brush her lap. Looking down, she smiled as the beast of a dog sat primly at her feet.
"Hmmm, looks like you've finally learned some manners."
She strokes the mangy mutt's hair, grimacing slightly at the matted, greasy feeling and admires the collar that sits at her pet's throat.
"I'm going to have to bathe you soon and... well, if you behave today we'll go on a walk outside. It's a beautiful day outside and I'll be very disappointed if you ruined it so early on. That means no biting." Her pleasant tone turned cold at the end, she disregards neither the way her Mutt refused to meet her eyes nor how it shivers on the floor out of fear.
The news stream now on the latest blunder some public figure made.
Quietly finishing her morning routine, she scoops up her laptop and started to make her way to the home office upstairs. The mutt follows behind, stopping at the bottom of the stairs.
"Remember. Behave or else." Giving the mutt a final pat on the head, she leaves upstairs.
It's noon when she finally emerges from her office. Feeling peckish, she went down to fix herself a light lunch, checking her Mutt along the way. She smiles in satisfaction as it lay in the corner like it was trained to. A cursory glance showing nothing was out of place. Her smile widens.
Making a decision, she puts her food down on the coffee table, turns on the TV and moves her work to the living room. Working as she eats, the noise from the TV eventually became white noise in the background, the day quickly goes by and eventually it was late in the afternoon before she was satisfied with her progress in work. Turning to the mutt that had settled itself by her side some time ago, she gently strokes its head.
