Mark Willson approached me 3 years ago and offered me a job. He said, he had noticed my skills and would pay handsomely, if I chose to work for him. He hinted that the said work might not be entirely legal, but ensured me nothing bad would happen to me, if I followed his instructions.
The rules very simple: I was never to question his instructions or the tasks I was given, and I was never to contact him directly. We would only communicate through the notes at the library.
If I violated any of these conditions, my employment would be terminated immediately. I never questioned any of it. I didn't even ask, what exactly he meant by 'terminated'.
At that time in my life, I had nothing going on. I had bagged groceries at the local supermarket, and to be honest I had been in a pretty bad place. I was ashamed of myself, being 23 years old, having done nothing with my life other than sit around and wallow in self pity. I lost my family at the age of 18. They died in a gas leak explosion in a restaurant. It was my fathers birthday, and the whole family had gathered to celebrate him. I had been late as usual, and just as I made my way to the restaurant from the parking lot, the entire place had exploded in a sea of flames. The image was still burned into my mind. I never really got on with my life after that. I fell into a deep depression, and I was honestly ready to give up. The hinted danger in the job offer seemed alluring, and as you might have guessed, I gracefully accepted it.
In the beginning of my employment I was given very simple tasks, but as months went by the tasks became more time consuming and more difficult. It suited me fine, as I had little to no social life. The money was great too, after only 7 months of work I had saved up enough money to buy a little house in the outskirts of town. The loneliness still haunted me at times though, but it was better now. Much better. I had found a purpose, a calling. You see after those first few months I couldn't help but wonder who Mark Willson was, and what he was doing with the information, I was providing him with. Like any other person I tend to watch the news, and sometimes a very recognizable name or place would appear on the screen. At times it would be in relation to a robbery, a tragic accident, a murder or even terror. I kept reminding myself, that I had agreed to this job, while knowing that there was something shady about it. But deciding I really didn't have much to lose, I planned to hack Mark.
The question was how? I didn't know if Mark was as good a hacker as me, but I knew, he knew enough about it, to notice my presence on the internet and track me down. Therefore, it was safe to assume a trojan horse program wouldn't fool him. Furthermore, I knew nothing about him. Nothing that resembled him came up on the internet, so it was safe to say, that he was using a fake name. I even tried tracking my monthly payments, but that only resulted in frustration, as the IP-address bounced around the world. From a hacker's point of view, I had nothing to go on, so the only remaining option was fieldwork. You see, the smart thing about the public library was that once you entered the building, you had access to free WiFi. Furthermore, the router had WEB security, which was very easy to hack. All I had to do was hack the WiFi router and hide out somewhere in the library with view of the restroom on a Wednesday, and wait for Mark to show up. His phone would automatically connect to the WiFi revealing his phones MAC address and IP-address giving me access to his data.
That's how I found out, that Jim Moriarty murdered my entire family.
