Celeste wasnt expecting much of that night. It felt like any other, the air nice and cool with a slight smell of ozone and car exhaust mixed in. The traffic of city buzzing by in the late afternoon as people came and went from work, entering and exiting their favorite eateries or heading home to their loved ones.

New York, for all its glitz and glamour was not unlike the big city she had only a few years ago left. There was just one slight difference...okay so it wasn't slight it was pretty big and potentially dangerous. She was being followed.

Maybe it was about a few months into her moving to New York that she noticed it. Though the ones watching her never revealed themselves she felt their eyes on her and knew that their intentions were no good. They were biding their time and waiting...but for what she did not know. This had gone on for about 6 months and even now as she casually made her way through town she felt her third eye alerting her intuition.

How she knew all this was relative to her nature. She was a mage after all and quite gifted in reading the air around her not to mention the auras of the people passing by. She could feel the pulse of the city and all the life forms within it and if she concentrated hard enough could pick up thoughts, intentions and entities. Honestly though she didn't like to engage in that aspect of her talents. Some of thoughts and feelings of those around her were, for lack of a better word, disgusting.

Of course she had many other tricks up her sleeve but those she saved for special occasions. One of which was about to present itself to her that very evening.

She turned the corner at the next block and halted before the back of her mind suddenly tingled. Before she could register what was going on a wave of power sliced through her mind like hot knives. She clenched her head between her hands and doubled over, the people around her glancing at her cautiously as they moved by. She managed to repress a scream that was forming in her throat and groaned as the wave of pain left her.

She stayed there stunned for a few moments before lifting her head and looking to the west as the sun was finally setting behind the skyscrapers of downtown.

"What the hell was that...?" She whispered to herself. She knew that kind of power could only mean something dark and troublesome. That being the case, she would for sure have to go investigate as it was the creed of her kind to disrupt and destroy any creature or entity that would use magic to harm the world. She mentally prepared herself for the night to come.
