Red Carpets

Being on a red carpet with your 3 year old daughter and your girlfriend that had no relation to said daughter was something that wasn't going to go smoothly.

Charlotte Mendes was only 3 years old but has grown accustomed to the flashing lights. She didn't like everybody crowding around her dad and she didn't like people yelling at him for pictures. That's why Charlotte was never to be seen waking the red carpet.

Shawn Mendes had a daughter at the age of 19. She wasn't planned but she sure wasn't a mistake. His ex-girlfriend had left him with Charlotte just days after she was born stating in the letter she left "it all became too much. Having a child at a young age was too much for her to handle." So that left Shawn taking care of a new born baby all by himself. He didn't know how to parent but he knew the media couldn't find out.

So he went into hiding. He wasn't seen for a year and a half. Paparazzi only got pictures of him picking up diapers or baby clothing. The media had all these ideas that the baby stuff was for a relative or maybe one of his friends. He never addressed it, he stayed silent and enjoyed his time with is daughter.

He stayed silent because he knew there would be all these rumors on how his daughter was a mistake or that he was too young to be a dad. He didn't need millions of people criticizing his life. He stayed single, focusing all his time on his daughter. To him that was what was most important.

He had no idea what he was doing or if he was doing it right so most of the time he called his best friend Camila Cabello to help him out. Camila had been there for every milestone Charlotte had. She was there for her first steps, her first word and anything else that was important. I guess you could say Shawn had began to like Camila in a way friends shouldn't. He didn't say anything, thinking that if he got into a relationship he would be neglecting his child. But when Charlotte's second word was "Mama" and she had said it to Camila he knew he made the right choice.

Camila took on the role of mom for Charlotte and the role of girlfriend for Shawn. She knew all about his ex and how bad she had hurt him. It was something she vowed never to do.

When Shawn finally stared appearing in public again Camila was there for him every step of the way. She helped him through anxiety attacks when paps got to close to the truth. She also helped Charlotte understand what a mother was. To Charlotte Camila was her mom and Shawn didn't tell her anything different from that. From the day Charlotte was born Camila had been there. Just because someone gave you life doesn't mean they are a mother or father. The  person who raised you and who you look up to is your mother or father. For Charlotte Camila had filled that role in her life.

When Shawn was on tour Camila had stayed with Charlotte all the time. She was there when Shawn couldn't be. Camila really did love both of the Mendes. She couldn't comprehend how someone could leave their own daughter.

Charlotte was a complete daddy's girl. She adored him and when ever someone said something even remotely offensive she was quick to defend him. For a 2 year old she really understood all lot of things. Very quickly she caught on that both of her parents were famous.

Shawn made sure no one knew about his daughter or his relationship with Camila. It wasn't that he was embarrassed of them, he just didn't understand why everybody needed to know everything about him. This was his secret that he got to enjoy. No one could ruin it.

No one and I mean no one knew of Shawn's little family unless you were really close to him. They all thought that Shawn Mendes was a regular 21 year old. They thought he didn't have any problems and that his life was so great.

So when Shawn showed up with not only his daughter but also his girlfriend to the 62nd annul Grammys, it was really shocking. Shawn decided that it was finally time to come out of the shadows and set the record straight. And he thought what better way to do that, then attend the Grammy's.

Shawn would be waking the carpet with his daughter and Camila would walk alone. They would later meet up inside the arena. Shawn was anxious, excited and mostly scared. He didn't want anyone to say anything bad in-front of his daughter. When it came to his girls, he was very protective.

Shawn and Charlotte had just finished walking carpet. Everybody loved them together. They all thought he had brung his cousin or  maybe his niece. Their theory was proven wrong when Shawn had decided to smother Charlotte with kisses on the carpet and she yelled out "Daddy stop!". It's started a wave of gasps that a 21 year old could be a father. He had decided he would do one interview just to answer the basic questions. He wanted to address the situation without having to do a hundred interviews.
He had decided to do an interview with Enews, since he had a good relationship with them. He chose Erin Lim.  She was sweet and unlike other reporters she knew when not to ask certain questions. 

"Shawn". Erin called out giving him a hug. "How have you been"

"Good, I've been busy. How have you been". He answered.

"I see that you have been busy care to introduce us to this little cutie?" Erin asked sending a smile to Charlotte.

"Well, this is Charlotte Mendes" he replied "Charlotte say hi"

Charlotte gave a little wave and squeaked our a small hi. Which all the interviewers thought was adorable.

Erin continued to ask questions about when he would be releasing new music and where has he been for the last year and a half. The interview was going well until she asked the dreaded question that Shawn knew someone would ask.

"So Shawn how does it feel to be a dad? Whose is the mother of your child? Are you still with the said mother?".

Shawn froze for a moment, he wasn't prepared for all those questions at once. He soon collected himself seeing as Charlotte was stating to get sleepy and Charlotte needed Camila to be there when she fell asleep. "Being a dad is great. Getting to see your child grow is an awesome experience. Charlotte's biological mother and me are no longer together. And to answer your last question Charlotte knows who her mother is, I know who her mother is and the mother knows. I think that's everybody who needs to know that information". He answered, he was beginning to get annoyed. He quickly said he goodbyes and stared to walk into the arena with Charlotte still in his arms.

Everything was going according to plan. Shawn was happy and content that the world knew at least one of his secrets. But key word on how everything WAS going according to plan. Camila suddenly came onto the carpet. Charlotte quickly realized that her mom was there too and just had to go and give her a hug. So she did what any 3 year old would do.

She screamed "MOMMY" and started running towards her. Completely forgetting about the talk her and her dad had about only going up to mom when they were only in the arena. But of course she was raised but Camila and Shawn. When do they ever follow rules.

Everybody on the carpet turned there head to see Charlotte Mendes hugging Camila Cabello. They heard Charlotte say "I love you mommy" and Camila reply back with "I love you too baby".  10 seconds later Camila looked up to see Shawn smiling widely at his girls. It didn't matter that he had just gone through a horrible interview saying that no one needed to know who her mother was, to Charlotte completely disregarding his words and outing him to everybody. What mattered was that at the end of the day he ended up with the 2 most beautiful people in the world.
