Prt. 1 - Introduction

Being a small, yet useful part of the band, you were the one to call for any SFX or side instrumentals to "...really [give] our musics and video an extra pop!" as Stuart always stated excitedly in regards to your work. You even helped with mixing when you could. You were kind of like the band's honorary member, a real trick up their sleeves.

Normally when working with musicians and artists, you'd be living in your own flat and getting called in whenever someone needed your expertise. But ever since Gorillaz had hired you to help work on their new Humanz album after such a long hiatus, you were basically living right there in the middle of where all the magic happens. Figuratively of course. You were only in the editing and viewing section, and you didn't dare step foot near Murdoc's Winnebago. You did get into his room a couple of times though. The poor sod didn't wake up half of the time and someone had to get him out of bed.

Everyday it seemed like new collaborators would come in and they, along with the band, would come up with some grand new idea for a song or visual. Now the band and the collaborators were all musical geniuses themselves, but Murdoc really wanted to make this track as successful as possible. Really give it that extra 'shoe shine' if yow will. He didn't want the collaborators' talents to go to waste, I mean they were his highly esteemed guests after all. So good old Mudzy called up some people and hit the phone books. Murdoc always knew that there was always some guy who knows a guy who knew a guy who knows the guy for the job. And in this case, that guy was you.

---

Some producer Murdoc was in touch with had found your talents a bit ago. He had heard how you'd been mixing in your father's basement since you were little and how you took those tapes to make some nice mashed up singles and visuals. It wasvmore of a project to pass the time really and although they weren't exactly legendary, they had potential. You never officially published them to anything of course, just out on a good music website or two, but you always kept them. The producer wrote you up with his buisness card in case you ever wanted to pick up where you left off, and in return you scribbled your name, address, phone number to hand off. The same ones you've had for the past 5 years.

And lucky lucky him. Being able to hold contact with you and make himself look good for his refrence. In fact, lucky you for dealing with those loud flatmates above yours in your small, musty apartment on the sidestreets. You thought it was quite cozy and nostalgic to be honest. Sure the annoyance of loud neighbors was one thing, but it did get lonley at times just there by yourself in the apartment. It was sort of a way to still feel connected to people... Never mind that, if you did end up moving it would have been a bit difficult for a potential employer to get in touch. Murdoc finding you meant that you had just got your big break, and you didn't even realise it.

---

"It's incredible what your contacts can get you these days ya know..." Murdoc had stated reflectivley in an interview regarding the overall process involved with his new banger of an album. "Sometimes they'll get you an out of jail free card (illegal or not hehe)." That last bit was hushed but everyone already knew about Murdoc's many misadventures and encounters with law enforcement.
"And sometimes, just sometimes, only at the best or worst of times of course, you'll get a great gift from the sky y'know? A real asset to the team. Something you never knew thought you needed, but something you would never do without again. And you know what? That's magic. hawhaw..." He remarked, leaning back and snapping in the comfortable red recliner that so many previous interviewees had sat in. His laugh still fading out. He was always keen on calling you an asset. He didn't have to, I mean they really could go back without you if they really needed to, but after their 3rd track on the albumn, the one you had first contributed to ('Strobelite' I belive), he took a listen to the diffrence between the songs with your work and without. Call it your trial period I suppose, I mean, they weren't just hiring people with all bar and no bite. But to put it short, in his mind it sounded remarkable.
