Dancing With The Fairy Queen

She had been warned of fairy lies and tricks,
"Don't follow the lights, no matter how bright."
But follow them she had, hand full of sticks.
Then music drew her closer, the path tight.
Gone was the cozy village she knew well
Replaced by a swirling rainbow of cloth.
Dancers twirling as notes of music swelled
Masks of animals—fox, rabbit, cat, moth—
Covered all dancers' faces except for one.
She danced in her tattered shoes spun of dark
And through the black shreds peeked the white of bones
And upon her pale cheek was a strange mark.

The girl escaped from the fairy dance then
But queen's shoes told it would happen again.
