A/N: This story does contain descriptive language about sex, sparse profanity, and a theme of good vs. evil, self-discovery, and of course, love. Although, I do use the fellas of One Direction as inspiration, the characters in the story are loosely based. I do not know One Direction, nor do I know every detail about their lives. All five guys will appear in the story one way or the other. Read, comment, and let me know what you think. It's my first shot at storytelling, and I hope you like it.

Prologue

A fire builds up in my stomach wanting to be relieved by this man, in a way that only this man can. His strong fingers roam down my stomach and close to the growing dampness between my thighs. What we were doing made no sense, in fact, it was senseless. In a moment when my whole world was changing, I should be running far away from this man and his ability to tug at my emotions. Yet, I needed him and I was selfish enough to stay and satisfy my needs.

"Zayn," I whispered pulling his head down to meet me.

"Nicole," he mirrored my look of lustfulness and began the intricate course of bringing me to heaven in his arms.

......

22. Twenty two was the number of years I, Nicole Ann Spence have been alive. 10. Ten was the age that I found out I was different from everyone else. 8. Eight was the number of foster families I had called home during my forgettable childhood. 1. One was today, because today was the first day that my journey to answers was going to begin.

The spring air wraps around me, gently kissing my face with its' promise of a new beginning. It was almost too perfect; the scent of the new blooms, patches of fresh grass, the calm of the fading sun. I tug at my teal cardigan, securing it around me just as the fading warmth threatens to leave with the day. I knew that this was a decision I needed to make. This was the decision I had made. It was time.

Only hours before, I had been handed my undergraduate diploma with honors. I had worked hard to gain my degree, but my true course was still in front of me. I brush my long dirty blonde hair away from my eyes as it swirls in the soft breeze. I have never put much work into my appearance. My clothing was simple; I never wore jewelry, bows, or sequence. I like things convenient and my attire of jeans, a black tank top, and cardigan fit me well. My unruly hair was always the same style my whole life: a length that was just past my shoulders and short bangs that swept to the left side of my face. I wore minimal make-up, just enough to fool those around me that I was awake and trying to be part of the norm. However, I was far from normal.

I climb the steps to my apartment with a large brown bag hugged securely to my hip. I feel her eagerness before even reaching the door.

The dark brown door flings open in front of me with forcefulness. "Nik, where have you been?" my roommate asks harshly. I can't blame Tori for her outburst. I had promised to be back two hours ago with refreshments in hand, yet I had deliberately stalled knowing what was waiting for me. "I said six not eight," she says vigorously letting her green eyes fall to the bag in my hand. I know she has no real anger behind her words. The glow of enjoyment and excitement spills from her, and I feel the elation.

This was why I had clung to Tori when I met her at college four years prior. She has a glowing bliss that always surrounds her. She seems to revel in the joys of life, and makes a point to drag me along. Tori forced me out of my recluse ways, and with her ever guiding light it became easier to blend in.

She runs a hand through her short black hair to ruffle the staggered layers, and she finally lets a smile show. "Well get in here," she playfully says grabbing my arm and pulling me into the apartment with glee.

I smile with her and allow myself to be drug into the mass of people in our apartment. I immediately feel the pull of emotions around me: joy, anger, greed, hunger, exhaustion, lust. I become consumed by them, and I practice my simple breathing exercise to let them seep into me.
