This was it. Ash's time in Kalos was coming to an end and Serena was worrying about not being able to tell him how she feels. After all this time, she felt like she had to tell him. She paced her room in anticipation, thinking over how she was going to tell him. However, nothing seemed good enough.

"What am I going to do?" Serena wondered aloud, tapping her chin. Then, suddenly she stopped as an idea popped into her mind. "That's it! I need a guys perspective." So she went over to the boys room and knocked. Just as she had hoped, Clemont was the one to open the door. "Hi Clemont."

"Hi Serena. What are you doing here?" Clemont questioned.

"Where is Ash? He is not here is he?" Serena asked.

"No, he isn't here. He is either still on the phone or training his Pokémon, but I'm not sure you could find him if you really needed to." Clemont replied.

"No. I just needed a guys perspective on something." Serena remarked.

"Oh ok. Ask away." Clemont nodded for her to continue.

"I'm going to tell Ash how I feel about him." Serena beamed. "And since you are a guy, I thought you could help me come up with a good way to do it."

Clemont felt his throat go dry and the color drain from his face. Was this really happening? He blinked a few times, and realized she was still looking for an answer from him.

"Um, I don't think that's the best idea." Clemont gulped.

"Of course it is. I have been in love with him from the moment he helped me back at summer camp. If I don't tell him soon, I could lose him. Why on earth would you think it isn't a good thing?" Serena crossed her arms.

"Well...um..." Clemont paused, unsure how to explain all that came to mind. 'Because I know he loves someone else. Because I don't want to see you heartbroken and crying. Because I want to protect you from all that pain. Because I'm the one that loves you.' His mind begged him to say, but his mouth wouldn't form the words.

"I'm waiting." Serena tapped her foot impatiently.

She could not believe that after all this time, after being so supportive of her in the past, that he was against this. It was going to make her happy and he was trying to talk her out of it. Why?

Clemont took in a deep breath. "I'm just trying to protect you Serena."

"What? Why would I need protecting? Am I that unlovable that you think Ash won't love me back!" Serena barked, clearly offended.

"No, no! That's not it at all! I promise. It's just..." Clemont trailed, unable to find the right words.

"Well." Serena frowned. "Clearly it was a mistake asking for your help."

Clemont deflated at her words, but didn't argue or try to stop her as she walked away. He knew he had already done enough damage.

Serena walked out into the Pokémon center lobby and looked around for Ash. She didn't need help to do this. Ash was going to tell her he loves her and they will be happy. Just like she has always imagined. There is no way it could go wrong. However, the dirty blonde performer was incredibly incorrect.

With a quick glance around the center, she didn't find Ash. So she looked outside, but still no luck. Where could he be? There wasn't a moment that boy wasn't training.

"What was it Clemont said?" Serena thought back. Then she remembered. "He has to still be on the phone!"

With this new information, Serena ran back into the Pokémon center and over to the front desk.

"Hello again. What can I help you with?" Nurse Joy asked.

"Can you tell me where the phone booths are?" Serena chirped, excitedly.

"Just around that corner." Nurse Joy pointed.

"Thank you!" Serena called over her shoulder as she ran off.

She was more determined than ever to tell him how she feels, and nothing was going to stop her. Serena rounded the corner. "Hey As-" she stopped herself when she saw that we was talking to a girl.

Curious, she stepped out of view before either could spot her and listened to the rest of their conversation.

"I can't believe how long it has been since we last saw each other face to face. I miss being able talk to you without a screen." The girl frowned playfully.

"I know. I wish we could see each other more too. It's tuff being away from my girl." Ash agreed.

"Oh Ash. You're making me blush!" She tried to cover her rosy cheeks.

"Well, you look adorable no matter what Dawn." Ash winked, which only caused her to blush more.

Dawn giggled in response. "What did I do to get someone as wonderful as you?"

"I think the same thing about you." Ash smiled. However, his smile fades when he sees the time. "Sorry Dawn, but I have to go."

"Yeah. I should probably go too. Just promise to visit me soon. I love you Ash." Dawn chimed.

"Of course I'll visit. I love you too Dawn." Ash gave one last smile before ending the call.

Serena felt her chest tighten in pain. Ash loved someone else. She didn't have a chance, she never did. Her eyes swelled with tears and her knees felt weak. What was she supposed to do now?

Then, Clemont's words flooded her mind. He had tried to warn her, but she never listened. He said he wanted to protect her, and always had. Right now, she needed him.

Serena ran with all her might back to Clemont's room. She slammed her fists on the door as tears rolled down her face. As soon as the door opened Serena lunged forward and crashed into a surprised Clemont.

"Serena! What happened?" Clemont worried.

"You were right...I wish I listened to you..." Serena cried.

Clemont hugged her tight. "It's ok, it will be ok. I'll help you through this."

Serena glanced up at him. "Why do you care so much about me?"

Clemont knew he should come clean about his feelings, but he was still nervous.

"We are friends, right?" Clemont forced the words out.

"Yeah." Serena muttered and buried her face away again.

She was kind of hoping for a different answer, but choose not to say anything. Instead, she listened to his steady breathing.

"No. That's not the only reason why." Clemont sighed. Serena looked back up to him in surprise. "The truth is I'm in love with you. I have been for a while. I know it sounds ridiculous but I couldn't help it. I just want to protect you and make you happy...but apparently I couldn't do either. I'm really sorry Serena."

"No, no, no! Don't be. You are an amazing guy and...while I don't love you yet, I'm sure it won't take long." Serena assured.

"A-are you saying?" Clemont stuttered in shock.

"Yes! I am giving you a chance." Serena smiled.

Clemont was absolutely stunned. He couldn't believe this was actually happening.

"Really?" Clemont asked.

"Yes." Serena leaned up and kissed his cheek. "Now let's go have some fun. I think we could both use some fresh air."

"Yeah." Clemont muttered.

Just as Serena took his hand, Ash came back to the room.

"Hey guys, what's up?" Ash greeted.

"Oh nothing. Just going out for some time with Clemont." Serena chirped.

"Cool. I'm going to go train. Be back later." Ash replied and went to get his Pokémon.

"Let's go." Serena remarked.

So the soon to be couple went out to spend time together and had a blast.
