Charles still felt he needed to prove his love to Destiny, but even then the two of them kept their relationship quiet at least until Destiny could speak to Henry.
"Charles."
"Yes your majesty?" He answered looking toward Henry.
"We must speak."
"Yes your majesty." He said to him, Henry led him into a separate room.
"I spoke to Lady Bryne today."
"Yes?"
"She says you both have become close since the death of my sister."
"She has been easy to talk to after the loss of Margaret."
"She asked for my blessing for you two to become suiters. It is rare a woman requests such things. But I did give her my blessing. You make her happy and it seems she has helped heal your own heart."
"Yes she has, thank you Henry."
"But I will warn you if she is ever hurt because of your wondering nature we will speak again."
"I believe I love her with all my heart."
"Then keep her safe Charles."
"I will your majesty." Charles said bowing to him, he waited a moment and then left the room. Henry shook his head and walked back into another room. Charles walked down the hallway, he heard shouting coming from down near Destiny's chambers. He hurried down the hall when he stopped at the entrance to Destiny's chambers.
"What happened here?"
"Someone was allowed into Lady Bryne's chambers."
"Is she alright?"
"The physician is in with her now."
"Who allowed someone into the chambers?"
"We are unsure your grace, but someone said it was Lady Anne."
"Lady Anne?" Charles almost growled, he walked into the room, he looked to see two servants cleaning blood off the floor. He stood looking into the bedroom, the doctor came from the room and stopped in front of Charles.
"Your grace."
"How badly was she hurt?"
"Her assailant stabbed her in the ribs, has lost a great deal of blood and until she wakes we are unsure if she will survive."
"Thank you." Charles turned to two of the guards that now stood in the room, one of you fetch the king. He needs to know of this."
"Yes your grace."
Charles walked into the room and two ladies looked up at him as they had finished helping change the garments she had been wearing. Charles looked toward the floor to see her torn dress.
"What happened Charles?"
"She was attacked, someone let her attacker in. Someone that was able to get the guards away from the door."
"Who?"
"I am unsure, there were some seen walking down the hall away from Destiny's chambers."
"Who?"
"Your majesty."
"Charles."
"One of the guards said they saw Lady Anne walking away from the chambers. But until Destiny wakes we will not know how her attacker entered her chambers."
"Will she live?"
"She lost allot of blood but the doctor is hopeful."
"Stay with her Charles and send word when she wakes."
"Yes your majesty." Charles walked over to the bed and sat down. He had finally admitted how he felt about her, admitted how much she meant to him. Even had Henry's permission for him to court her.
Charles sat by the bed for a full day before he felt a hand touch his.
"Destiny?"
"Hey." She said softly.
"Hey beautiful."
"I guess I survived."
"Yes you did. Please don't leave me."
"I never will. Or at least I will try not to."
"Then that is all I can ask. But I do have one question."
Destiny closed her eyes momentarily and then looked at him.
"What is it?"
"Do you know who let your attacker in?"
"I am unsure. I did see Lady Anne but I am unsure if she let those that attacked me in."
"I am just happy your alive."
"As am I."
"Your majesty." Charles said turning to Henry.
"Don't get up. How are you doing Destiny?"
"I ache it's the best I can say. I am tired."
"Then rest and when you are better I want you moved somewhere safer."
"Henry?" Charles said looking at him.
"You will take her back to your estate. She will be safer there away from here."
"If that is what you want. I will keep her safe."
"I know you will."
Henry touched his arm and left the chambers. Charles looked back at Destiny and saw that she had gone back to sleep, he leaned forward and kissed her forehead. He knew she needed the rest, he wasn't going anywhere if he didn't have to.
