I sit in the passenger seat of the car that my mom rented, which is the left side. There are a lot of things that are different here from America. Like driving on the left side instead of the right. I was surprised that my mom was already good at driving on the opposite side of the road.

"Mom, how are you so good at driving on the left side already?" I ask her while she concentrates on the road.

"Well, I lived in England for a few years before you were born with my parents, and in England, they also drive on the left side," she replies.

"Oh, I didn't know that," I say, feeling bad that she had to bring up her parents, who both died two years earlier in a car accident. In England.

"I know sweetie, it's fine," she says, giving me a small smile.

"I think this is the house," my mom says as she parks the car and looks at the paper with the house information on it.

It's a pretty small house, but it's just me and mom, so it works.

"Yeah, this is it. Ready?" she says and I nod.

We both open our car doors and step out, walking to the front door of the house. My mom shuffles through her purse to find the keys that she had mailed to her when she bought the house. When she finds them, she unlocks the door and we walk in.

After we get all our bags in, I go to the room that is mine, and start unpacking my things. It doesn't take very long because we couldn't bring too much with us. We left the rest of the stuff with my aunt and cousin, and they are going to sell it all and send us the money so we can go buy stuff that we need.

Once I have put all my clothes in drawers, I take out my shower stuff and some shorts and a tee shirt. I walk down the hallway and find my mom sitting in the kitchen.

"I'm going to take a shower," I tell her.

"Okay, but when you're done, we are going out to get some breakfast and then buy groceries so we can eat here, so get dressed into decent clothes, not your sleep clothes," she says.

"Okay," I say, and turn back around to go take a shower.

*one week later*

"Mom, I'm going out back," I say as I'm walking out the back door. I put my ear buds in my ears and play my music. While listening to Paramore's "The Only Exception", I start walking to the woods behind our house.

After walking for a bit, I see a building, in the trees. A tree house. I take out my ear buds and walk a little faster until I'm right under the wooden tree house. I grab the step right above my head of the wooden ladder that is coming down from the house. As I climb, I keep checking for anyone that might be watching. When I get to the top, I push up the door and pull myself up into the good sized room.

There's so much stuff in here, but it's somewhat organized. A drum set sits in the right corner, a bookshelf in the left, a few beanbags in the middle, guitar cases laying randomly on the floor. I better get out of here before someone else -

"What are you doing here?" a low, very Australian voice says. A boy.
