"Hey, Francy!" a little girl called, her golden hair flowing in the wind as she ran to her neighbor's house with a bouquet of dandelions in her hand. The small boy shyly turned around facing the girl with dark grey eyes, his face turned bright red as she handed him the messy flowers.
"These are for you!" she said with a huge grin on her face.
"T-Thanks Addie" he replied, giving her a small smile.
"Make a wish!" the girl said excitedly watching her best friend blow off the seeds on the dandelions as if it was his birthday. They've been friends since they were born and they've never been apart but for the first time, they'd be separated. As they ran around the backyard playing a round of tag before they heard someone call,
"Adelaide! Time to go! We've got to get ready for tomorrow!" the little girl heard her mother call.
"Aw, already" she said pouting towards her mother.
"C'mon sweetie say goodbye to Frances." her mother sadly replied.
"Where are you going?" Frances asked curiously as any 5 year old would.
"Mommy says that we're going on a trip but don't be sad. I'll be back in no time!" she replied happily her smile never leaving her face.
"See ya later Francy!" she said after hugging her friend as tight as she could not wanting to let go. "Bye Addie" Frances said trying his best not to look sad as he watched his best friend run to her mother.
"I'll miss you"
12 years later
Adelaide's pov
"Mom? Dad?" I called out as I heard construction like noises.
"Downstairs, sweetheart!" my father replied loud enough for me to hear him.
"What's going on? where'd the couch go?" I asked my parents.
"Well-" my father continued, "We're moving back to Dallas" he said quietly, scared to see my reaction.
"WHAT?! NO! We can't leave! I love Oakville. I can't just leave!" I nearly screamed at him. what was he thinking? I've been living here for most of my life and he thinks that we can just leave! Why didn't he talk to me about this first?
"I'm sorry sweetheart but the company needs me back in Dallas. Plus, Grace is coming with us!" Grace is coming? Grace Brooks. My best friend. she had grass-green eyes and scarlet red hair that often reminded me of blood. She's the total opposite of me. She's loud, enjoys partying and she's extremely extroverted. She's a lot of fun to hang out with but she graduated last year leaving me to suffer my final year of high school alone.
"At least Grace is coming" I answered slightly relieved.
"When are we leaving?" I asked wanting to pack up before we left.
"In two hours hun so try to get all your stuff ready. Oh, and do you mind getting ahold of Grace, just to let her know that we'll be picking her up soon?" my mother asked. she looked more stressed than she always did. I quietly nodded my head and went up to my room to get packed up. I picked up my phone, sending a quick text to Grace.
me: "Hey Gracie! we'll be there in two hours so start packin'!"
Gracie<3: sweety, I've been packed since yesterday! I can't believe we're moving to Dallas! I'll be over in 10 to help you pack! Later babes"
After I read her text I laughed at what she had said and I softly shook my head. I couldn't believe it. I'm moving back to Dallas... I mean, I did miss the nicer weather but I was only 5 the last time I was there and now that I have been living in Canada for the past 12 years I don't really want to leave, and as much as I hated the snow, I had started to appreciate it a little more knowing that other countries don't get to experience watching snowfall from the sky.
A couple of hours flew by and we shoved all of our luggage into the car. I look around the house one last time and I thought,
I'm really gonna miss this place...
And with that, my dad started the car and we made our way to the airport.
