in which diego thinks kimetrius is cheating on him and tries to break up with him

diego sighed. this was the second week in a row that he had woken up and kimetrius wasn't in bed.

diego hated feeling uncertain. it made him anxious. he and kimetrius never lied to each other. if the other was upset about something, they would talk about it until the issue was resolved.

early in the relationship, and even now at some points, diego felt like he didn't deserve kim. he had felt like kim was so much better than him, could do so much better. there had been whispers about their relationship, and how diego was trash and wasn't good enough for him. it had taken diego so long to believe that he did deserve him. that he did deserve to be happy.

but he was starting to doubt that even more now.

for the past two weeks, kimetrius had been coming home late and coming to bed at three in the morning. whenever diego had asked him about it, he had just said that he was out with friends.

diego knew he wasn't being honest. and it scared him. he didn't wanna lose kimetrius. he was the only person who made him feel like he was loved.

diego had a thing where if he could sense he was about to be hurt, he would hurt the person before they could.

so that's what he was gonna do. he couldn't let kimetrius break his heart.

"kim?" diego said, walking into the bedroom where kim was sitting.

kim looked up at diego and smiled. "hey, mamas. come sit. how are you, baby?"

diego shook his head, looking down at his feet. he felt his eyes fill with tears as he said the next words.

"it's over."

kimetrius didn't say anything. he was stunned. it was over? what the fuck was diego talking about?

"watchu mean, mamas?" he said, sitting up on the bed.

"i'm breaking up with you." diego said, his voice wavering.

kimetrius felt his chest tighten, like he couldn't breathe. "w-why?" he stuttered. diego looked up, his eyes wide. he'd never heard him stutter before.

"i don't wanna be with you anymore, that's why." diego shouldered past the taller boy, grabbing his backpack and stuffing it with clothes.

kimetrius felt his eyes well up with tears. but then he became angry. he marched up to diego, grabbing his arm and turning him to look at him. but not enough to hurt him. despite whatever the fuck was going on here, he'd never hurt him.

"diego, can you tell me what the fuck is wrong? tell me so i can make it right." kimetrius pleaded.

diego finally met his boyfriends eyes. "you haven't been here. you've been away. you've been distant. clearly there's someone else, so i'm getting out of your way."

it finally smacked kimetrius in the face. that's why, he thought. he finally looked over the past few weeks and had realized that he had been coming home late very often. but not for the reason diego had thought.

kimetrius pulled his boyfriend into a hug. "baby, there's nobody else. i love you. only you. i promise you."

diego pulled away. "then why have you been gone?"

kimetrius smiled. he walked to his closet, opening a bag before walking back over to diego with a soft black box. "i had this made for you after what happened a month ago. i've been working overtime to pay for it."

diego slowly opened to box, his eyes widened as he saw what was inside. a golden heart-shaped locket was sitting in the box. he picked it up, closing the box and handing it to kim.

"open it." kimetrius said, smiling.

diego opened to box to find a picture of his grandmother inside. oh yeah, he felt like shit now.

diego's grandmother had passed away last month, and diego had been devastated. that women had raised him when he was younger.

kimetrius had seen how depressed his boyfriend had gotten and decided to find a picture of her and put it in a locket so he could always be with her.

"mi abuela..." he said, his eyes filling with tears. he ran his thumb over the picture. he felt kimetrius gently take the necklace out of his hands, stepping behind him to put it around his neck.

"do you like it?" kimetrius said nervously. he felt the smaller boy wrap his arms around his waist.

"i'm sorry, kim. i'm sorry." he said shamefully. kimetrius was probably going to break up with him now. he'd be alone.

he felt a kiss being pressed on the top of his head. "don't be, baby. i should've been honest with you but i wanted it to be a surprise. i'm sorry, love."

diego looked up at his boyfriend, smiling. "i love it. it's beautiful. thank you." kimetrius nodded, taking a deep breath. "let's watch a movie, huh? and then we can order pizza or something. sound good?"

diego nodded. "yeah," he said. "sounds good."

yeah, they were gonna be okay.
