Evan opened his eyes and looked around the room. He saw Kayla, his daughter, and her husband, Matthew. Kayla came over, and sat down on the bed beside Evan. She took his hand, and smiled at him. Evan let his gaze shift over to the other side of the bed, where Bell, his wife over 70 years, saw sitting. Gently she reached over and moved a few wisps of thin, gray hair from his forehead. She leaned over and kissed his forehead.
"Are you alright? I mean, has the pain lessened any?" Bell asked.
"No, it hasn't, but it's not anything that I can't handle. I don't have much longer to put up with it anyways." Evan said, referring to the tumor that was in his brain. The doctor said the test showed that Evan didn't have much longer to love. Maybe a day, at the most. He said that early this morning, and it was about eight at night.
"I am so sorry, Daddy, that there isn't anyway that we can stop the pain!" Kayla said, tears coming to her eyes. She brought her father's hand to her lips, and then kissed it.
Evan yawned, and closed his eyes for a minute. He began to remember things that happened in his life. Like when he met Bell, their wedding day, their three children, Kayla's wedding, and all that he could. It took him awhile to remember everything, but it was there, in vivid detail.
