The sun shone brightly into the apartment window, waking Evan up too early for a Saturday. He sat up in his bed, and rubbed his eyes. Bell was already up; he could hear her making breakfast. He rolled out of bed and groaned.
Then he walked slowly to the kitchen. Bell was there, her long brunet hair hanged loose. She was also wearing a long t-shirt, but even though it was too big, you could still see the unmistakable bulge in her stomach, an annoying side effect of being about nine month pregnant.
Bell was too busy scrambling eggs to notice Evan come in, so she jumped when he whispered 'Good morning' in her ear.
"Evan! Don't do tat! You scared me half to death." Bell playfully scolded, and tapped him on the shoulder with the spatula.
"You know I am just playing!" Evan laughed.
"Why are you up so early?" Bell asked, as Evan sat down at a small table.
"The sun woke me up. What about you?" Evan asked back.
"Someone kept kicking me." Bell said, grinning as she put the scrambled eggs into a large bowl.
"Don't blame me!" Evan said.
"I didn't say you. She's been kicking since about four, and still is." Bell said, taking the bowl of eggs and two plates and forks to the table. When she stood next to Evan to set things down, he reached out and put his hand on her stomach.
Sure enough, he felt a small kick from the child Bell was carrying. Evan removed his hand and put his ear against her instead.
Bell smiled at him, and stroked his black hair. "Hey, wake up. Your breakfast is getting cold!" Bell told him, and moved away from his head to sit down.
"You know what day it is tomorrow?" Bell asked, batting her eyes at Evan while resting her chin on her hands.
"Hmmm. I don't have the slightest idea! Sunday?" Evan said, obviously teasing.
"No silly! Our Anniversary!" Bell said with a laugh.
Evan leaned across the table and gave her a quick kiss. "That was for a Happy Early Anniversary."
"Why, think you!" Bell said, as she finished the last of her eggs. She then stood up to get a glass of water.
Evan took a bite of his eggs and reached for the newspaper, which was on a nearby counter. He started to open it up to the sports section, when he heard a glass shatter.
Bell had dropped her glass, and it had shattered on the hard wood floor. Fortunately, they were both wearing slippers. Her face had paled a little bit, and her eyes were wide.
"What's the matter?" Evan asked, starting to get worried. He was going to scold her at first for being so clumsy as to break the glass, but the look on her face made him stop. Before she could answer, Bell began to clutch her stomach and lean over. A loud groan escaped from her throat, and then the pain passed. Evan was standing next to her, asking what was wrong.
"Damn it, Evan, you need to get to the hospital. That was a contraction!" Bell said in a slightly louder voice, and groaned again.
Evan jumped up, knocking over the chair over in the process. Bell couldn't help laughing over the way he was knocking everything over in his way. After managing to get dressed, and keep her favourite vase away from Evan-Destrocto, they climbed in the car, and another contraction hit her.
"Evan! Evan! SLOW DOWN! I'm not dying here! Or are you practicing for your next high speed chase?" Bell said as they ripped down the street.
"Never mind! We're here!" Evan screamed as they pulled up to the hospital.
