The snowflakes fell gracefully, swaying in the wind. A sheet of pure white snow blanketed the trees. The ground was concealed by thick layers of snow. In the distance, the bright yellow sun inched towards the horizon, ducking behind the silhouettes of trees. The thousands of pieces of snow elegantly descending upon the earth turned the area into a winter wonderland.
And amidst this winter wonderland, a girl stood rooted to the spot, her eyes glassy and brimming with tears. The air was cold. So much that she was dressed with layers of clothes. The cold, however, felt as though it was no longer there, for she was too caught up in her misery to bother.
The male before her swallowed a lump in his throat. Seeing her like this caused him to be at the brink of tears as well.
"I'm sorry,"
Namjoon muttered quietly, guilt swirling in his chest as he gazed at the heartbroken girl.
"N-no, i-it's not your fault, it's j-just I-"
The girl stuttered through her sobs and hiccups, wiping her tears away with her hands.
"No, it's my fault,"
Namjoon's voice was barely above a whisper as he spoke.
"I really, really want to stay here, with you, but I'm sorry, I can't."
Y/n's heart broke a little more with every word he spoke. How she wished, he could stay with her. How she wished, things didn't have to be like this.
How she wished, she never even got so attached to him in the first place.
"If I could chose my train,
I just wanna stay right next to you,"
Namjoon confessed, mustering a weak smile.
"But, this is goodbye,"
He stated, his voiced laced with regret and sadness, and y/n could almost hear his heart shattering.
"Forever?"
Y/n questioned, her voice breaking as she tried the best she could to hold in her tears.
Namjoon sighed. This girl never failed to tug at his heartstrings. In both a good and a bad way.
"I don't know. I hope it's just a very long time,"
He smiled gently, ruffling the girl's hair.
Just then, the distant sound of a train horn was heard.
"Yea, that's my cue,"
Namjoon chuckled, trying to lift the mood a little.
Without warning, y/n leaped forward, embracing Namjoon in a hug as she wrapped her arms around his neck, burying her head in his shoulder, sobbing and sniffing as a wave of agony and overwhelming sadness washed over her.
Hearing her sobs while not being able to do anything was torture for Namjoon. He rubbed comforting circles on her back, his own eyes brimming with tears.
The girl grasped on his clothes like her life depended on it, and her grip only grew tighter as the train drew closer. Her chest ached, and it felt like shards of broken glass were being pushed into her.
The two stood in the snow, and although they only looked like a small dot from afar, that small dot carried so much emotion, and so much meaning. The scene was beautiful, the figure of a girl leaning onto that of a man, specks of snow falling down gracefully around them was such a mesmerising sight. It was like a scene you would find in a snow globe.
It was so beautiful, yet so heartbreaking. Every sob and sniffle from the girl held an unbelievable amount of misery and agony.
"I need to go,"
Namjoon's voice wavered as he spoke softly to y/n, gently trying to push himself free. He reluctantly stepped back, already immediately missing her warmth.
"I'm sorry,"
He apologized, tears stinging his eyes.
"I promise I'll be back one day."
Y/n smiled slightly through her tears.
"I'll be waiting."
