I tapped the colour pencil on the surface of the wooden table continuously, furrowing my brows at the drawing before me then at the reference picture I had laying in front of me. Groaning,I leaned back in my chair. I was exhausted after drawing for hours straight. My hands felt sore, and my neck was hurting.
"I should take a break..." I muttered to no one in particular as I stood up from the chair. Standing in the middle of my room,I pondered about what to do. Should I just go and walk? Nah,too boring. Get a drink? I have water at home. My eyes scanned the room before landing on a ukulele I had laying in the corner of my room. I smiled to myself. It had been a while since I even touched the instrument as I was busy drawing. I stepped towards the ukulele, gingerly picking it up and blowing the dust off it. I exited my bedroom, throwing a coat on and heading towards my special place.
The moment I set foot outside the house door,a cold gust of wind blew through my hair, earning an annoyed grunt from me as my hands flew up to fix it. The streets were buzzing with life, people talking with friends and others just enjoying a walk. My feet began moving, bringing me to a much quieter area. The ukulele rested in my arms as I thought about how much I missed playing it. It had been so long since my fingers last grazed the delicate strings, creating the oh so familiar sound of the notes. I grinned to myself, glad that I could finally get to relive the fond memories I had with the instrument.
Before I knew it,I had already reached the spot I was going to. It was a quiet hill that not many people even knew existed. I discovered this place a few years ago, when I was walking around konoha, exploring the less known areas. As soon I set foot on the hill,I fell in love with beautiful scenery, and have been visiting this place nearly every day. I stood rooted to the ground, taking in the mesmerising view. White clouds dotted the endless blue sky, groups of birds occasionally flying past. Soft gusts of wind blew every now and then, blowing the grass with them. A variety of brightly coloured flowers dotted the emerald green grass, not a single piece of trash in sight.
I plopped down under the shade of a tree, leaning against the trunk. Just then,I realised that I was not alone in this place. Laying under a tree not far from mine, was a boy around my age. He seemed to be sleeping, his eyes shut as his mouth was slightly agape. His dark hair was styled in a pineapple shape - which was quite a questionable choice of fashion if you asked me. I covered my mouth, suppressing a giggle.
I soon snapped back into my senses, furrowing my brows and feeling rather disgusted at my past actions. I pouted slightly, wanting to have the place to myself. I shook my head, focusing my attention back onto the ukulele resting in my lap. My arm slithered delicately behind the instrument, fingers strumming the strings. I tuned the ukulele carefully, listening to the sound each string made.
After a while,I finished tuning the strings. My fingertips grazed across the ukulele, recalling one of the songs I had been taught quite some time ago. I began playing a few chords, eyes slowly shutting as my entire being began melting into the soft music. My body swayed to the tunes as I savoured every note that I heard. Everything was just so nostalgic, bringing me back years ago when my mother would teach me the ukulele, and I would constantly complain about it being annoying and a waste of time. She is on a business trip now,and I rarely get to see her anymore.
I pushed those thoughts to the back of my head, focusing instead on the soft melodies the ukulele made. The music consumed me,every note held an overwhelming amount of emotion. My fingers tugged at the plastic strings, releasing a beautiful melody into the air. Soon after, the song came to an end. My eyes fluttered open, taking in a breath of fresh air.
"You're pretty good at the ukulele," A low, gruff voice said, causing me to flinch. My head shot up,eyes meeting a pair of entrancing, dark ones. "What?" I muttered, brows furrowing. Standing before me was the boy from before. I assumed he had woken up. He rolled his black eyes in annoyance. "I said, you're good at the ukulele," He repeated.
"O..kay?" My words sounded more like a question than an answer. "Are you shy or something?" The boy asked, sitting on the grass beside me." What a drag..." My cheeks flushed a light pink as I felt a burning sensation on my face. "Huh?No!" I quickly replied. "Why are you talking to me anyway?" I shot back.
It was his turn to get flustered, red dusting his face. "I-I just thought that you're good at the ukulele and wanted to compliment you! Plus I thought you were quite pretty..." He stuttered, mumbling the last part. However,I could still barely hear the words. I turned into a blushing mess, not used to people complimenting me,especially my looks.
"Thanks I guess," I averted my eyes to the side, warmth still lingering on my cheeks. "I'm Shikamaru,by the way," The boy said, causing my head to turn back to his direction. "I'm Y/N," I replied. "Well,I better get going now," Shikamaru said," I'll see you?"
"Yeah sure," I answered with a slight smile.I quite like this Shikamaru kid, actually.
