The more the merrier
Once those words came out of Willows mouth I instantly flinched as I felt the pain to those words, did she really judt tell me that I thought as I looked to the ground, tears swelling in my eyes. I wiped at them and looked at Willow who was looking down to "y'know, you should watch what you say to people," I said slowly as I looked at her waiting for her to look me in the eyes, she didn't move so I began "I'm sorry that your parents died in front of you, no one should ever see that, and now you think it's your fault well it's not you couldn't do anything to prevent it anyways," I stated knowing that what I said made Willow flinch,
"My parents died In front of me, and it was my fault," I finished as I got up and walked to the door, I sighed as I looked back at Willow who still had her head down tears falling down her face, "your not the only one regretting every second of life, when they could've tried to save the ones they loved," I told her as I unlocked the bolt and went outside closing it behind me. As I made it outside a fist of cold dry air hit me making me cough as the dirt from the pavement road flew with the wind, I looked around my surroundings to see nothing but moonlight shining on the Earth's surface.
I used the moonlight to make my way to the rav 4 and climbed onto the roof, I laid down sighing as I looked up at the might sky stars shining back down at me, I remembered when before all of this I could just stay up not worrying about any zombies going to eat me while I stare at the night sky with Elisabeth, but my parents who could any minute walk in my room to see me not in bed. I chuckled as I remembered the last time me and Elisabeth stayed up to look at the stars, it was her idea since she and her parents got into an argument so she needed me to cheer her up, and of course I did.
"You okay Beth?," I asked her as she laid by my side looking at the stars, she sighed and shaked her head "nope, got into a fight with Mom and Dad," Elisabeth told me as she stared at the stars, "well maybe tomorrow they'll be okay?," I more have asked than told her she chuckled and shrugged, "y'know Ash, you really know how to cheer up people," she said sarcastically but chuckled after, I smiled as I saw her smile "well it's my pleasure," I said trying to imitate a bow while laying down. Elisabeth laughed lowly "you're really something, Ashton," she said as she kissed my cheek, and we laid there looking up at the stars not regretting any moment we spent together,
As my memory finished I heard Willow's voice talking to me, I opened my eyes to see her standing there with red eyes as she looked at me lips trembling, "I'm s-s-sorry," she said as she looked down letting salty tears flow from her eyes, I gave her a sad look now she was back to her broken self. I patted a spot next to me on the roof indicating her to get on and lay with me, she then look up at me as if asking permission again I nodded, she then climbed up I gave her a hand to help her which she took and then she got on,
Making the roof bend under us she laid down on her back as the roof went back to it's normal flat self, she looked up at the stars "I'm sorry too for what I said," I told her sighing this zombie apocolypse was really turning me into something, she nodded "it's my fault, I was being self absorbent. I should've think before I said," she said as she too sighed, "well then I guess it's both our faults, we can be faults in the zombie apocolypse," I said winking at her which she laughed too, and her laugh was a genuine like if she was not in a zombie apocolypse.
I smiled as we where getting along again "so what happened to them?," She asked lowly as if she was asking an urban question, I looked back up to the stars sighing "it's a long and sad story," I said before closing my eyes and remembering the when scene of them dying in front of me. "Well we got alot of time," Willow said as she gestured to the stars, I nodded as I began to tell her how my parents died. When I finished Willow was speechless now knowing how my parents died she didn't know what to say, "I'm sorry," she chose to say. I nodded knowing that being sad about it won't bring them back, "and plus I know that if you're parents where still here, they'll tell you to never put yourself down for their deaths," I told Willow honestly as I looked at her, she smiled a small smile "thanks Ash, it really means a lot," she thanked me.
The night went on as me and Willow talked more about the zombie apocolypse and plans we should do while we still are breathing, after the night got colder I told Willow that we should get some rest for the day later, as we entered the gas station Willow immediately went to her sleeping area and knocked out while I locked the door making sure no zombies will enter and kill us in our sleep. Satisfied with the locked door I went to my sleeping area and closed my eyes, sleep quickly took over my whole body immediately, and that's when I knew I was back into nightmare land when I couldn't move, I tried to open my eyes but I barely could because it felt like it was being held down by weights,
Then as my eyes fluttered open I was filled with relief as I didn't wake up back into the black goo or my home, I looked around to see that I waswas in some sort of hospital room, I tried to move but couldn't as my hands and feet where tied to something, looking at them I saw that I was strapped to some sort of chair, I tried to pull them out but they where tightly tied. I cursed as I tried my best to get out but then the door opened to two people in white coats and mask on their face, I tried to talk but couldn't get the words out of my mouth. One of the people took a clip board from the table and started talking "so they sent in another volunteer?," A feminine voice came from the person holding the clip board, the other person shrugged "I don't think this was voluntary, Dr. Borris," the one who told the feminine voice person who was 'borris',
Dr. Borris nodded "so what're we going to test today?, Dr. Shepherd," She asked the person holding a needle, "Sample 00103," Dr. Shepherd said as he stab the needle into a small bottle sucking a purple liquid into the needle, he flicked the needle a habit he was now growing into every since he started he's new job, he looked at me as I was strapped to the chair with pity, "another wasteful soul," he said as he jabbed the needle into my neck.
I jolted up as I felt the piercing of the needle stab my neck, sweat coated my skin as I felt the heat of the old gas station air, I looked around my surrounding to see I'm not strapped to the chair anymore, I'm inside the gas station remembering that I came in earlier I laid back down. I sighed as I took deep breaths weird things are going on, and I can't even know why I thought back to my dream, who was that person strapped to the chair, and most importantly what was "sample 00103," I said slowly finishing my chain of thoughts. I closed my eyes and I then saw the guy 'Dr. Shepherd' looking at me, I let out a shaky breath as I felt shivers go through my spine at the sight of the doctor, I then heard rustling looking over to the place where the noise came from I saw Willow sitting up yawning "morning poke boy," she said to me as she rubbed her eyes, "morning," I whispered back still spooked out by my dream I had,
But it felt so real I told myself shaking my head, now's not the time to worry about dreams I reminded myself getting up I walked to the door and saw that the sun was rising, and the car was still parked outside. I turn around to see something flying at me, I caught it in one swift motion to see it was ready to eat can fold, I looked at Willow who was smiling at my actions "eat up, it's going to be a long day," she said exaggerating the 'long' as she popped her can open eating it with a spoon, I looked for a spoon luckily I found one I opened it and ate my food, ask finished it my stomach felt full I sigh "I'm going to miss this food, once we run out," I said as Willow grabbed a water bottle and tossed it at me, catching it I opened the bottle drinking all the content.
I went to the door untying my makeshift lock and opening the bolt, I walked out to the car opening it with the keys warming up the car for the long road trip. Willow came out with our bags and extra stuff she wanted and got into the car, "wait be back," I said as I jogged back into the gas station and going to the back of the counter searching for stuff, and right in front of me I found a treasure "yes," I said in victory as I grabbed the shotgun. I tried it on my arms to see how it felt and it felt great, I looked back into the cabinet to find extra ammo in it pocketing all of them I ran back out with the shotgun in hand smiling like a child on Christmas, "look what I found," I told Willow as I got into the driver's seat, "you just had to right, y'know you ready have two guns," she said as she shawls her head chuckling, "well the more the merrier," I said shrugging as I drive out of the gas station and onto our way to Elisabeth.
