Being so close to Babs sent him right back to 2011, cramped in vents and riding Motorcycles named after rodents. Back to illegally downloading Blink182 songs on the Batcomputer. Back to when he was happy just beating green nerds with a stick. Back to when he was happy. Back to when? 2011. Good fucking year.

Barbara held his arm a little tighter. Jason stole a glimpse at her, like a hoodlum steeling the rims off of a Batmobile. Her fiery frostbitten hair and those cold, heart melting eyes. An entire head taller than him, still. Christ, she was  perfect. Reminded him of Clark's little red-headed girl in Smallville.

Jason remembered one mission fondly. Two-Face holding up White Ram Bank on Shrimp Street. Him and Barbara were assigned to take him out. Practically no need, GCPD had it. They still had to make an attempt, or Batman would put them in the Bat-Corner or something. The vents there weren't made for two muscely teenagers clad in body armor. Conveniently, they crashed directly above old Harvey. Got their pictures taken, and they left. They met later that night on top of ACE. It was a really nice place if you kept out of the chemical stuff. Hundreds of feet above Gotham, the city looked beautiful. Couldn't see any of the nasty stuff. They looked at each other for a long time that night. Neither had the courage to say anything. Just stared. Eventually they had to part ways. They left each other with just a laugh and a smile.

Jason wondered what would've happened if he had done something. Said something. Jason held on to Babs like a dog holding on to a rope his owner is tugging away from him. That owner was his big heart with lots of blood flowing through it.
