"You have to marry him," Brianna's brother thundered.
"I don't even know him, Bran! And you're asking me to marry him?" Brianna said, her eyes filling with tears. She shook her head, unable to comprehend how he could demand that she leave her life behind to marry someone she had never met.
"I'm not asking you, Brianna. You have to and you will. This is important for us," he shouted, frustrated that she wasn't agreeing to marry a complete stranger. His entire future depended on it.
"For us or for you?" Brianna challenged.
"This is how you repay me? I took care of you. I raised you. I could have been out there living my life, but no, I came back for you. I can't believe this. You're so ungrateful, Brianna." He stormed out of the room.
Tears welled up in Brianna's eyes. Brandon Morris had achieved his goal of making his sister feel guilty. Yet, a small part of him knew he was being unfair, so he began to walk back to her room to reassure her that she wasn't selfish. Brianna was only 19, and he was asking her to marry a 30-year-old man she had never met. But his own selfishness took over, and he turned his back on her again.
'I've already done a lot for her,' he thought. Brandon Morris, at 23, was fresh out of college with a job at Bell Corp. When their parents died, leaving 15-year-old Brianna behind, he had two options: leave her with their shrewd aunt or take her with him. He hated both options but ultimately decided that taking Brianna with him was more beneficial. Their parents had set up a college fund for Brianna, which he now had access to and used for his own benefit. Brianna didn't know this, so she should be grateful that he took her in. If she refused, she was selfish.

Later that night, Brianna knocked on his door, holding a tray of food. Since moving in with Brandon, she has done all the household chores. After graduating, she started working at a diner because Brandon told her he couldn't afford her culinary education, and she didn't complain.
"Brandon..." she said softly. But he didn't look at her. "...I guess I should at least meet him."
Brandon's eyes lit up. He took the tray from her and hugged her. Brianna hadn't eaten since morning, but he ate the food while talking about wedding preparations, even though she had only agreed to meet the man.

Friday night, Brianna was supposed to meet Julian Bell. He was already an hour late. When his car stopped in front of their modest two-story house, he rolled his eyes in disgust. He was doing this because his uncle asked him to; otherwise, he wouldn't get the position he was promised. He didn't bother getting out of the car and just honked. Brianna came out hesitantly, looking breathtakingly beautiful in her modest light blue maxi gown.
