For once, let us allow Shinso to have two, married and non-abusive parents.

. . .

That's a big door.

I stare at the large 1-A frame before stepping into the classroom, and find myself alone. The room is empty aside for desks and chairs, the teacher's podium up front, and a lumpy yellow sleeping bag off to the side of the front desk. I forgot that the Hero courses show up a bit later than the others, the schedules are slightly offset. I'm early, by about twenty minutes.

I turn to the left and look at the seating arrangement. They have the desks in alternating rows of six and five, two of each. I go to the second row, the first row of six, and chose a seat that's one away from the end. This is fine. I can see ok from here and I'm hopefully not going to be in anyone's way.

I sit there quietly, the only noise being a clock ticking somewhere in the classroom.

After about ten more minutes of waiting, people start to show up.

Bakugou is first, followed by Todoroki, and then Iida, Uraraka and Izuku come in together. Then comes Asui and Jiro, Kaminari, Sero, Hagakure, and Shinso. Finally, someone who I know more about than just their name.

I wave at him a little as he walks in and notice him smiling (sort of, in his own way) before coming and taking the end seat beside me.

"'Morning," I say as he sits, and he replies likewise.

I  place my elbow on my desk and lean my head into my hand. "So, how was your break? Do anything exciting, read anything new?"

He smiles. "Nothing too interesting, though I did start a new anime, the one about vampires or demons or something?"

He pulls out his phone to check the time before remembering something and he looks back at me and grins. "Oh and I finally got a cat! I have pictures, his name's Kai,"

I don't usually see him this excited about anything but I know how long he's wanted a cat for, so I sort of get it. I giggle at the name and it's meaning. "Kai? Does he like water?"

He opens the gallery app and scrolls through hundreds of memes before opening a picture of a grey tabby. "No, but you know how my mom took us to the beach a bunch this summer?"

I nod, smiling at the pictures of the cute cat.

"Yeah, so, one time when we were there we found this cat all huddled up underneath one of the piers. We asked around and no one could say who he belonged to so we took him to a clinic and they checked him out for worms and stuff and said he was clean, but he also didn't have a chip or anything so as far as any of us know he didn't belong to anyone."

He smiles and shows me another picture of Kai, this one of the tabby curled up in a laundry basket. "But now he belongs to us, which is great because we were going to start looking for a cat anyways and this way we adopted him cheaper than we would've through the shelters."

I smile at him. "That's great, you should see if you can bring him to the dorms if they have us move back in this year."

We talk about summer, about families, about Kai. At some point we start talking about getting moved to 1-A. He's definitely more excited than I am. He won't say it out loud but he is. He wants to be a hero a lot more than I do, and I know he and 1-A's homeroom teacher, Mr Aizawa (Eraserhead) are fairly close.

Shinso would show me some things from their training sessions sometimes, always so proud of himself for getting stronger and faster but also convinced that he could do better. He always tried to do everything as best as he could, and even if he had it down pretty well he'd want to push himself to master it.
