Jackie laid in their new bed, the room encasing them in a sweet scent. The brothers, aside from Lucifer, were very against the idea of Jackie sharing a room with him. That being said, Jackie got their own room.
A knock on the door distracted them from the silence. They dared to welcome them in, seeing Satan in the doorway. He was wearing a different outfit now, one of his, quote "fake smiles", end of quote, as well.

"Jackson," he began, seeming to be reading Jackie's face for a reaction. "Do you happen to enjoy reading?"

"Of course," Jackie said, feeling their body move on its own.

"Well, that's quite the relief," he said, his smile suddenly contagious. "I was worried you didn't enjoy books. I'll now ask that you, Solomon, and I meet up at some point to read together."

Jackie thought for a moment.

"Of course. What books do you like to read?"

"Anything, really. Mostly mysteries and thrillers," Satan said, his eyes sparkling in excitement. "I love asking questions while I read, being worried about what's to happen. Being wrong, especially."

Jackie looked at their small bag of things, wondering if the book they had been reading was in there.

"I try to read multiple books a month," Jackie said, standing and making their way towards the bag. "I think I'm on my fourth one, but I haven't started reading it."

"Something tells me that you normally read more than four books a month," Satan said, watching Jackie's face change.

"It's flu season back home," Jackie said, pulling out the book, relieved that it was there. "I got called into work a bit. If it wasn't flu season, I'd probably have less money and more time."

Satan tilted his head, Jackie noticing that he was very close to them.

"If you don't mind me asking," Satan said, seeming to be cautious. "How old are you? You don't look older than seventeen."

Jackie slowly blinked, wondering if that was a compliment.

"Thanks? I'm twenty-four."

"Wait," Satan said, taken aback. "Seriously?"

"Yes," Jackie said. "Seriously."

"What are you doing in a school, then?"

"Humans are always learning new things, Satan," Jackie said, smiling at him. "Besides, you're over five thousand, you think you have room to talk?"

Satan laughed at Jackie's comment, before staring intently at them. Jackie felt their heart beat increase.

"Lucifer finds himself.. I suppose 'in love' is the way to say this.. with you. What have you done to earn that?"

"I'm not sure," Jackie said, feeling their knees growing weak. "I've done nothing for him."

"No, you haven't," Satan said, his eyes narrowing. Perhaps he was relaxing just how strange this situation was. "Which is why I'm asking."

"Why would I know?"

"Did you, perhaps, speak with him before?"

Jackie studied Satan's gaze, determining that they definitely didn't want to say the wrong thing here. Their memory showed no signs of Lucifer's face.

"No, I don't believe so," Jackie said, looking at the floor. "I remember faces pretty well, and I definitely don't remember his."

Satan looked at Jackie's hands, reaching down to take them. Jackie hated to admit that one of their biggest insecurities was their long fingers.

"Do you play any instruments?"

Jackie definitely had an answer to this.

"Yeah, I play clarinet, piano, and recently started learning to play violin," Jackie quickly added. "I haven't had time to work on the violin and my clarinet is broken pretty badly."

"I get it now," Satan said, smiling at Jackie. "He goes to see people play in the human realm, you must be one of the jazz singers he went to see."

"That's awfully flattering of you to say," Jackie said, pulling their hands away from Satan.  "I doubt he'd remember me by my face."

"Lucifer has an impeccable memory," Satan said, almost like there was a sour taste in his mouth.  "He literally doesn't forget anything.  Mammon would be glad if he did."

Jackie nodded, now hoping Satan would leave.

"Well, I'll see you tomorrow morning," Satan finally said, releasing Jackie's hands.  The book had found its way onto the bed at one point of the conversation, but Jackie tried to ignore it.

"See you tomorrow.  Goodnight, Satan."

"Goodnight, Jackie," Satan said, his smile becoming more frightening than contagious.  The door closed a little too slowly behind him.
Jackie glanced over seeing the book, One of Us is Lying, sitting on the bed.  They were on page two hundred thirty-four out of three hundred ten.  They were ready to finish the book.
Another knock made Jackie's heart leap to their throat.  What if it was Satan with some unfinished business, or Beelzebub with the munchies that only a human could satisfy?

"Come in," Jackie dared, the doorknob turning rather slowly.  Lucifer pushed open the door, his hair in his face.  He was soaked.  "Oh, shit, what happened?"

Jackie watched Lucifer chuckle at them, speaking rather calmly.

"We're experiencing rain in the Devildom, fret not."

"Just rain?"  Now that Lucifer mentioned it, they could here the rain beating on the roof.  "It sounds like a storm."

"Possibly."

Jackie stared at Lucifer, who simply stared back at them.  His eyes had a strange look in them, almost a look of melancholy.  He was lost in thought.
Jackie felt something grab their wrist and pull them towards him.  Lucifer's scent hit Jackie, making them feel like they were drunk.

"Lucifer, what are you doing?"

Lucifer leaned his head so his forehead was on Jackie's shoulder.

"I'm not sure.  It's like you have some sort of spell on me," Lucifer's voice was low.  Jackie felt their heart rate increasing when Lucifer pulled away and looked into their eyes.  "What are you, really?"

Jackie thought the answer would've been obvious.  They were a human.

"From the first moment I saw you in that bar, in the human realm, of course, I knew there was something different about you.  The air was different.  The way you moved.  Everything."

"Lucifer, what are you getting at?"

Jackie watched Lucifer grab their hand again, gazing at their fingers.  He was acting so strange.

"Have you ever been in love before, Jackie?"
