Chapter VIII

     The House of Lamentation was a mess and Belphegor was nowhere to be seen. 

"Mammmmmooooooon..?"  Lucifer roared with a cymbal.  Jackie abandoned ship, quickly moving upstairs while Lucifer was preoccupied. 

The attic was a mere few feet away from them.  Lucifer wouldn't be angry if they approached after the fact, would he?  Jackie knew, when looking back in retrospect, it wouldn't change anything.

"Jillian..?"  An unfamiliar voice called.  Jackie almost didn't realize the voice was calling to them.  "Where were you?  I was waiting."

Jackie turned to see the seventh brother, Belphegor.  Jackie recognized him from the many pictures.  Yet, Belphegor thought Jackie was their deceased sister.

"Belphegor?"  Jackie called, curious.  He looked annoyed.

"You look at me as if you've never seen me before," he snapped.  The venom is his voice worried Jackie.  A quick hue of purple encased his body, before revealing a form that reminded Jackie of a cow.  "Jillian, you promised you'd help me get out of here..!"

Jackie, with barely enough time to scream in horror, was tackled to the ground by Belphegor.  His feet crushed into their chest, his long tail wrapping around their neck. 
He stepped off of them, just to lift Jackie up by the neck.  His tail felt like a rope. 
      The taste of metal soon filled Jackie's mouth.  Belphegor was saying something, but the ringing of Jackie's ears drowned him out.  He was enjoying this. 

Denizens of darkness..

Jackie locked eyes with Belphegor, something in his softening.  It was like he realized something important.

I unleash five of the rulers of Hell..

"You're.." Belphegor whispered.  "You're not Jillian.."

The Avatars of Greed, Envy, Wrath, Lust, and Gluttony-

"It doesn't matter," he spat.  "You're still a human-  you still need to die!"

-Mammon, Leviathan, Satan, Asmodeus, and Beelzebub!

"Oi, Jackie!"  Mammon somehow shouted over the ringing in Jackie's ears.  "Why are you calling for us when you're-"

Jackie made eye contact with Lucifer.  They blacked out.
      Jackie snapped awake.  Their eyes met the blurry ones belonging to none other than Lucifer.  His face laid atop their chest once he saw Jackie was awake.  He was listening to the quiet thumping of Jackie's heartbeat.

"Lu.." Jackie called, closing their eyes briefly.  "What happened?"

"Don't worry about that," Lucifer whispered, Satan rushing into the room.

"Jackie," he said, louder than he had intended to.  "Sorry, are you okay?"

Jackie reopened their eyes to peer around their surroundings.  The differences were few between its human counterpart.  This was definitely a hospital.

"Why.." Jackie's train of thought was cut short when Diavolo walked in.  He had a serious and grim expression.

"Good to see you're awake," Diavolo said curtly.  "Belphegor is being held in the Demon Lord's Castle."

"You won't hurt him," Lucifer blurted out suddenly.  "Will you, Diavolo?"

All the brothers, that had ventured into the room, were shocked at Lucifer's sudden pleading.  Diavolo's cold gaze fell upon Lucifer.

"Haven't decided that," he said.  Lucifer didn't seem like he was giving in.  Jackie knew he wanted to cry.  "But you, Lucifer, you betrayed me."
