Later that day, after Mile had gotten back from college and met Adaline, the four of them were in the kitchen, eating dinner and talking about what they thought their next housemate would be like.
"So when's the next person gonna show up?" Mile questioned, looking at Toaster.
"They should be here in... two days!" Toaster said, counting on his fingers.
"Personally, I hope it's someone really nice. I don't think I'd be able to stand living in a house with a jerk that hates me all the time." Adaline said.
"We've been doing it for years." Toaster and A said simultaneously.
"I hope it's someone with a lot of cash so we can finally get out of debt." A sighed, picking up a plastic spoon. "And so we can get better silverware."
"I hope its someone that likes doing dishes..." Toaster complained, standing up and taking his plate to the sink.
"No offense, but I hope that its someone a bit smarter than you two." Mile said, pointing at Toaster and A.
"Hey! Are you calling us dumb?" Toaster asked.
"I mean, kinda."
Toaster and A looked at each other.
"He's got a point, ya know." A said.
"Yeah, I know." Toaster responded, looking at the ground.
"Well, thanks for at least not calling me dumb." Adaline smiled.
"You're not the one that invited multiple people to live with them on accident."
"Hey! Neither was I!" A argued.
"Well, you could have at least stopped him."
A had his mouth open, trying to think of something to respond with. Finally, he closed his mouth.
"Fine." A mumbled, crossing his arms.
"What's the guy's name, anyway?" Adaline wondered, looking at Toaster.
"Apparently his name is Abrru. He used to live in Idaho."
"Idaho? What a boring place to live." A said.
"Hey! My grandparents live there!" Adaline said, pointing a fork accusingly at A.
"Well, sorry then... jeez..."
"Where did you live before you moved here, Adaline?" Toaster asked.
"Oh, I always lived in Edgeshire. I couldn't imagine ever leaving here. It's my home."
"Really? What school did you go to?" A questioned.
"Edgeshire High, of course."
"Hey, so did I!" A exclaimed.
"Really? I thought you never went to school." Toaster said.
"I used to. Before I got kicked out of my parents' house."
"You got kicked out of your parents' house!? When?" Mile asked.
"When I was 15."
"What!? Isn't that illegal?"
"Probably." A kept eating.
Everyone paused.
"So what about you, Toaster?" Adaline quickly changed the subject. "Have you ever gone to school?"
"Yeah, for a few years. But I had to leave when..." Toaster's expression changed. He looked sad.
"What? What happened?"
"...My parents died when I was 7."
"Oh, Toaster! I had no idea! I'm sorry..." Adaline responded.
"Don't worry, its no big deal. It was a long time ago, anyway."
No one talked for a while.
