It had only been a couple days since Toaster put up the advertisement looking for someone to live with them. They had gotten quite a few responses from people looking to move in. A had been waiting to talk to all the applicants so he and Toaster could find a person they both thought would be okay to live with. Toaster, on the other hand, was too impatient to wait for A. He was extremely excited to have someone else living with them, and hated that A kept telling him to wait a few more days to pick someone. So, Toaster took matters into his own hands.
"Hey Toaster, I think we should probably start to talk to some of the applicants and find someone we think is good." A suggested.
"Don't worry about it! I already told some people that they can come!" Toaster happily responded.
"SOME people? As in more than one?"
"Yeah! It's always more fun with more people."
"WHAT!? How many people did you say can live here!?" A asked, frantically running his hands through his hair.
"Oh, only a few so far. I think I only told, like, nine people or something."
"NINE!? Toaster, you do know that only one of them can stay here, right? Tom will freak out if he knows nine people are living here! He'd kick us out in seconds!"
"Don't worry, I'm sure Tom will be reasonable."
"Dude. He barely let us have a couch here. A COUCH. Do you think he's really going to be okay with nine extra people here? He'll kill us! You have to tell those people they can't stay here."
"No, you do it! I'm perfectly fine with these people being here, so if you have a problem with it, you can tell them yourself."
"Come on, you know I can't do that! I can't even work up enough courage to ask for extra ketchup when we go out to eat. Do you really think I can just straight up tell nine people they can't live here, after you already told them they could?"
"Well then, it seems like they're staying." Toaster said, smiling.
"Toaster. I swear to god, I will murder you."
"Fine! Let's just think of something that can make both of us happy!"
"You know damn well that ain't gonna happen." A muttered.
"Hey! What if we let all of them stay here for the month, and then choose who we think would be the best to live with based on that month! We can see things like who makes the most money, who cleans up the most, who has the coolest stuff, and who is the most fun to hang out with! That way, they will have a months notice to find somewhere else to live. We can just act like this was our plan the whole time."
"That... is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. There is no way that would work!"
"Well do you have any ideas then!?"
"That's not the point. The point is what you just said is fucking stupid. It sounds like a horrible plot for some stupid book on wattpad or something."
"Please A? It's the best we got. We don't have enough time to think of a different plan." Toaster pleaded.
"Wait. What do you mean we don't have enough time?"
"Well, the first person was going to move in soon."
"SOON? How soon!?"
"Ummm... about two hours."
"WHAT!? Fine. Fine! We'll go with your idiotic idea! Lets just clean this place up before they get here!"
"YAAAY!" Toaster exclaimed with glee.
The two then spent the next two hours frantically get ready for the first person to get there. They cleaned the house the best they could, and had a few spare minutes before their first housemate got there.
"Hey Toaster, who is this guy anyway?" A asked, looking out the window for anyone coming to their door.
"His name is Mile."
"Miles?"
"Nope. Mile. No s. He's apparently pretty smart."
"Well that's a shame for him, cause we're idiots. He might regret this more than me. Where is he, anyway? He's late."
"I think he was supposed to be here by now. Let me go check the message he sent me."
Toaster then ran up the stairs to check his computer. But at that exact moment, someone knocked on their door. A opened it to see who he assumed was Mile.
"Hey, is this Toaster and A's house?" Mile asked.
"Sadly. Make yourself at home."
"Thanks! Nice place ya got here." Mile said, walking inside.
"Yeah, it only cost us our life savings, but it's nice. And that's what matters." A said sarcastically while closing the door. "TOASTER! MILE IS HERE!" A called upstairs.
Toaster swung his head down the side of the stairwell to look at A and Mile.
"Hey Mile! I'm Toaster! Welcome to your new house!"
"For now." A interjected.
"What do you mean?" Mile asked.
"Well, I might have invited too many people to stay, so we need everyone except one person to move out at the end of the month. Whoever me and A think is the best housemate gets to stay!" Toaster explained to a slightly confused Mile.
"Umm, why didn't it say that in the ad?"
"Because! It was a... um... surprise!" Toaster said.
"Yeah, definitely." A said while rolling his eyes.
"Oh. So, how many other people are going to be here?"
"Only eight others." Toaster said.
"Toaster, why are you still up there?" A sighed. "Just come down the stairs already."
"Well I'm not going to now that you told me to."
A put his head in his hands, looking extremely stressed.
"Are you happy this is where you ended up, Mile?" A said, his head still in his hands.
"Fine, fine. I'll come down." Toaster said. "We have to show him around anyway."
As Toaster rushed down the stairs to show Mile around, he slipped and fell down the last few steps. A immediately burst into laughter. A few seconds later, after he had processed what happened, Toaster joined in as well. But Mile was a bit more concerned.
"Oh my god! Toaster, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." Toaster managed to say between breaths.
"Why are you guys laughing so much? It is a little funny, but shouldn't you be more concerned?" Mile asked.
"Nah. We're just laughing cause he's an idiot. We're aware of our stupidity, and just enjoy it and make fun of ourselves and each other. It's how I've managed to stay friends with this bumbling moron for so long."
"Oh. So it wouldn't be rude of me to laugh as well?"
"Eh, I guess not. You just do whatever you want, and if it's not cool we'll just tell ya."
"Oh. Okay, I guess."
"Well, I guess we should show you around now." Toaster said after calmed down. "Let's start over here...."
