The minute it happened, El was dragging Mike out of work.
It was earlier in the morning. Maybe 10 o'clock, and she practically ran to his office, dragging him out frantically.
Their boxes of belongings already sitting in the backseat of the car, they sped out of Chicago as fast as possible.
3 hours. A three hour drive to Hawkins, and they needed to haul ass.
Mike hadn't driven this fast in well, thirteen years. When he was at work, and El had gone into labor and Sarah had been born.
And El practically cried the whole car ride back to Hawkins, and the hours seemed to last days.
She couldn't lose her baby. Not here. Not now. Not ever. She would save her. They would save her.
They hoped she was okay right now.
...
The whole drive, although not long, had been spent in tears.
Sarah had sobbed the entire time, in the pitch black back of the truck. When the doors were opened again, the men had grabbed her around the arms, not letting her budge.
A logo read HNL outside the building as they brought her inside. Broken glass was everywhere, and the halls were lit by flashlights.
Clearly this place had once been big, and now it was just a hiding place. For whatever sinister things that man, Brenner, wanted to do.
They dragged her down a long, blank looking hall. They were walking too fast for her to keep up, though.
So she was literally dragged by the arms, and felt as though they'd been pulled out of their sockets when they stopped at a small room.
Once inside, she noticed a bed. Unlike a hospital bed in the fact that it had a real headboard and seemed to be a bed that would go in a house.
Except the mattress was too firm and hard for anyone to be comfortable.
She also saw a table, with a sharp syringe, with some clear liquid in it, next to an electric razor. A small bottle lay beside the syringe, reading anesthesia.
Before she could connect the dots, the same guards had come back into the room and held her down against the bed as a doctor injected her with the needle.
Everything slowly went fuzzy, and soon enough she'd completely passed out.
...
When she woke up, the room was lit up by actual lights. Hospital lights. They blinded her as she opened her eyes.
She looked around the room to see the doctors had left, along with the guards. She was too dizzy to get up and go anywhere though, and she knew better. They'd probably be waiting for her in the hall.
Folded on the edge of the bed was a hospital gown. Instincts told Sarah not to put it on, and so she didn't. She ignored it, sitting on the bed.
She scratched her head, expecting to feel her tied up hair, and instead feeling, nothing. She froze on the spot then, feeling her shaven scalp.
They'd knocked her out and shaved her head. Wanted to put her into a hospital gown.
Did they do this to her mother? Were they this despicable? Sarah couldn't imagine.
When she thought about that. And realized that her hair was gone, that she was now trapped, it hit her then. And she immediately broke down. Her sobs blocked out any air, and she was left hyperventilating.
