A little bit about her/backstory: Carlie was born to her parents Kenneth Kwok-wai Tang and Wendy Sze-wing Chan, who are of Hong Kong Chinese descent, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She has a sister named Zoe Bing Tang who is 8 years younger than her. From a young age, she loved music and writing, and had aspirations to become a singer and author. She excelled in English and music at school in Winnipeg, and also participated in public speaking. When she was 12, she and her family moved to Canton, Michigan, USA for work opportunities for her parents. There, she continued to excel in writing, music and public speaking, winning contests and awards. She is now attending Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, majoring in Creative Writing and Music, working to fulfill her dream.
In Michigan when she was 15, she was invited to a hockey game by friends. After the game, her friends introduced her to some of the players, one of whom was Jack. She and Jack exchanged numbers and became close friends, and feelings began to grow. On Carlie's 16th birthday, Jack asked her out on a date, and they became exclusive after four months. Right now they are long distance as Jack is in New Jersey playing with the team while Carlie is at university in Halifax, but they call and text every day, and when they are in the same city they make sure to go on dates. They plan to spend lots of time together in Michigan during the off-season.
Carlie is very bubbly and cheerful. She has been described as a ball of sunshine by those who meet her. She sometimes seems childlike, but is also very mature and well-spoken. She has some emotional scarring due to past bullying and mental health issues, but feels stronger than ever now. She is very smart when it comes to English and History, and also computers. Her math and science skills are mediocre, however. She's not the most athletic, but she loves to watch hockey. She only speaks English fluently, but also speaks some French and knows basic phrases in Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, Italian and Spanish. Some other things she enjoys are singing, acting, watching movies, and collecting perfume.
Aside from her boyfriend Jack, Carlie is close to Jack's family, and Parvati Walker (Jack's brother Quinn's girlfriend).

- Her parents were going to call her "Charlie" if she was a boy. When they found out they were having a girl, they weren't sure what to call her, but then decided they liked the name "Carly". However, when they wrote it down on a piece of paper before her birth, they wrote it as "Carlie" due to being used to writing "Charlie". They ended up preferring the accidental spelling and it stuck.
