*Varian had went with them in season 2
*Cass and Raps had talked things out and were on good terms
*Cass was lost with the others, leaving Rapunzel, Eugene, and Varian to find the Moonstone and complete their quest

Just as Rapunzel reached out, another hand took the stone away from her reach. In shock, she whips to see who it was, and finding none other than Varian, stone clutched tightly in his hand, his blue streak soaring as Rapunzels hair fell to the ground. His eyes were contorted, as if hazy, though the hatred made Rapunzels heart race.

"Varian, give that to me," she speaks. Her voice mimicked the shaking in her legs. Not at all like a Princess should speak.

The boys back straightened and he held his fist to his chest, keeping the stone close. "You betrayed me," his eyes narrow into slits as he speaks. There was no fondness in his tone. Only venom. "You left my father to rot in that amber. You only brought me to make you feel better about yourself." Each word grew with power as his determination consumes any sense of regret he had. "You'll feel what my father has," he growls, pushing the moonstone against his chest as if by instinct.

"Va-!" The sundrop starts, only to be cut off by a massive burst of wind caused by the power of the moonstone. It pushes her back, causing her hair to flow back as if it were a river. Eugene, who had stepped back before, was now blown back against the wall, and fell to the floor in a daze. "Varian!" Rapunzel shouts desperately. "Stop this!"

Black rocks shoot up around the room as the new wielder of the moonstone brings up his fist. "You never learn, do you?" His voice rang out through the wind; a calm in the storm. "You wouldn't save my father, and now you can't even save yourself. If you won't help him, then I will, and Corona will pay for your mistakes."

A black rock came up just as the wind stopped, and forced the princess toward the edge of the bridge, so that she had to hold onto it to keep from tipping over. Her feet just barely reached the ledge. "Eugene!" She calls out for help. A few moments later, her prince is there, helping her back onto the ledge. A quick glance shows that Varian is now gone- and a yellow-hued substance is growing, consuming, filling their only exit. Varians words echoed in her mind. "You'll feel what my father has."
