I woke up on this fateful day feeling thrilled, yet anxious. Thinking about the events that would occur were exciting, but I couldn't help feeling as though something would go wrong. I sat up in my bed and thought about all of the arrangements we had made in the months previous.
For several months Erik and I discussed our wedding and all of the arrangements that had to be made. In hindsight, there wasn't a lot because practically nobody would be there. The only people who would be there besides Erik and I (duh) would be the priest, the organist (who irritated Erik because he was told he couldn't play at his own wedding and he was bitter about it), and Mme. Giry who would give me away. Not even Meg would be there. That made me feel disappointed, but I knew it would be better if she wasn't there. All she knew was that I was safe and she didn't need to worry about me. It was better if she didn't know where I really was. At least that's what Mme. Giry and Erik kept telling me. I really wish I had my maid of honor, but at least I had someone to give me away. That meant a lot to me, especially since I had no real family of my own. Soon, Erik would be my family. I smiled at the thought as I sat there in my dress, absentmindedly humming as Mme. Giry fixed my hair.
"Thank you for being here," I told Mme. Giry. She smiled at me through the mirror in which I was sitting in front of.
"Of course, dear. Where else would I be on such an important day?" She replied, her eyes twinkling. I smiled in response.
As the time passed, I continued to grow more and more excited and anxious about my upcoming nuptials. I kept praying that everything would go well and without a hitch.
Finally, my time arrived.
We made our way to the quaint little church. I couldn't stop smiling the entire way there. By the end of the day, I would be married to the love of my life. Things had escalated so quickly, but I knew it was right. Life is short after all. You have to take the bull by the horns while you can.
Mme. Giry helped me step out of the carriage as we arrived. I was wearing a revamped version of the dress Erik had made for me that night so long ago. It was a perfect fit after all. My hair was simple yet elegant, my curls cascading down my back. On my face, a bright smile resided. I was ready.
Mme. Giry walked me down the aisle as the organist played a beautiful wedding piece. I saw Erik beaming at me from the other end of the aisle. He looked so handsome up there. He was mine. I felt a tear slip down my cheek as we approached the altar. I gave Mme. Giry a kiss on the cheek before standing before the love of my life.
"You look absolutely beautiful," Erik murmured, a tear glistening in his eye. I smiled even wider if it was possible at his words.
A/N so I tried to find an authentic 1870s wedding ceremony but I couldn't so we'll make do with a modern interpretation
The website I'm using for all this is called AngelFire.com if anyone wants to use it to help write wedding ceremonies!
"We are here today to celebrate the love that is shared between this man and this woman and join them in holy matrimony," the priest began. I inhaled deeply at the gravity of his words. We were going to be married. It was going to be real. I knew, however, that there was nobody else in the entire world I'd rather spend the rest of my life with."May you always need one another; not to fill an emptiness, but to help each other know your fullness. May you want one another; not out of lack, but to feel the warmth of their touch. May you embrace one another; not to encircle one another, but to give comfort. May you succeed in all important ways with each other, and not fail in the little graces. May you have happiness, and may you find it in making one another happy. May you have love, and always find love, in the pursuit of loving one another."
The priest paused to let the meaning of the words he spoke sink in. They really were deep yet true words. The priest then continued.
"Anyone who objects to this union, speak now or forever hold your peace."
It was silent in the church for several moments. And then, to everyone's dismay, the church doors burst open and a drunk, booming voice yelled out;
"I OBJECT!"Just kidding that's not the end of this chapter! 😉
I gasped in horror, Erik growled, and Mme. Giry almost fainted as a very drunk Raoul staggered down the aisle toward us.
"Someone stop him!" I pleaded, a different type of tear than before falling down my face.
"She's my bride, not yours!" Raoul drunkenly shouted as the organist, who was very speedy and strong for a man his age, grasped Raoul by the shoulders and began dragging him down the aisle towards the open doors. I saw the angry, almost murderous look in Erik's eyes. I took his hands in mine and forced him to look into my eyes.
"He can't hurt us, Erik. I'm yours and I always have been," I told him reassuringly. I was somehow much calmer than I was a moment ago. He noticeably calmed down and hugged me tightly as the adrenaline rush faded. Raoul was now contained and thankfully, he hadn't really interrupted anything. There wasn't anything he could do.
"Now that that whole situation is over with, let's continue!" The priest exclaimed. We returned to our positions in front of the priest and continued the service. The rest of the service went without a hitch. We exchanged rings, our vows, and our hearts as the ceremony progressed.
"Do you, Erik Destler, take Christine Daaé to be your partner in life and to share a path of life with; equal in love, embraced as a mirror for your true self, promising to honor and cherish her/him, through good times and bad, until death do you part?"
"I do," Erik replied proudly. I squeezed his hand in excitement at his words.
"Do you, Christine Daaé, take Erik Destler then to be your partner in life and to share a path of life with; equal in love, embraced as a mirror for your true self, promising to honor and cherish her/him, through good times and bad, until death do you part?"
"I do," I replied happily.
"And now by the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride," the priest finally declared.
I wrapped my arms around my husband's neck and kissed him passionately. Cheers resounded from the organist and Mme. Giry as we were finally married. I had never been happier in my entire life than I was in that moment.
"I love you, my husband," I whispered when we parted.
"Not as much as I love you, my wife," Erik replied. He then took my hand in his and led me back down the aisle to the carriage that was awaiting us.
We waved Mme. Giry goodbye as our carriage took us to the train station where we would depart on a train taking us (eventually) to my homeland, Sweden. It would be a long journey, but I knew it wouldn't feel long. I had Erik by my side forever. Nothing else mattered to me in that moment. ❤️
I hope you enjoyed this part!! Chapter 5 will be up eventually lol. Following my current trend, this is unedited grammar wise so have fun finding all of my mistakes!!! I hope you're all having a wonderful day!!

(A/N 10/26/20: Just a few minor grammar changes were made, I'm working on chapter 5 now but don't expect anything anytime soon, I literally have no time to even breathe!)
