 Becca's POV

"listen brat I'll say this one last time, do you understand me!?"

I nodded my head vigorously, willing to agree to anything the man said if it meant he wouldn't shoot me. he ground the gun painfully into my temple.

"Now are you listening, 'cuz this is the last time I'll say it. You will run! you will never stop running, you will not trust anyone! Promise me! Promise me you wont sto-"

        BANG.

"Nooooo!" I woke with a start. I was drenched in a cold sweat, my sheets tangled painfully around my legs. I looked around dazed trying to figure out where i was. As i looked around I realized I was lying in my bed in my downtown Chicago apartment. The nightmares were coming more frequently now, I was starting to remember more of what happened before I was shot that night. I shook my head and started to stand up, remembering a second too late that my legs were tangled.

"uggh" A muffled groan escaped my lips as I fell flat on my face. For a moment i just lie there too drained to move, then I heard the pathetic whimpering of my dog Lucy and decided it was time to get up and walk the poor thing.

"Don't worry baby, Mommy's coming" I called out as i got up from the floor and started hopping into the first pair of jeans i touched.

        #############

We were finally outside after a breakfast misshap and 20 minutes talking to steven about his date last night. I met Steven about a year ago at the supermarket. He knocked the mirror off my car and wouldn't leave me alone until i agreed to let him take me out for drinks to make up for it. We had been best friends since. Lucy and I walked for a while stopping every now and then for her to smell things. After a while I became aware of the growling in my belly, indicating that I was quite hungry. I started to head for a diner I knew of, just a short distance from where we were, when i felt something hard run into me. Literally.

"Oophh" I braced for impact, dreading the feel of hard cement coming in contact with soft flesh. i felt warm arms slide around me and immediately jumped back almost falling again until the stranger's arms enveloped me once again. I heard a quiet, masculine chuckle and looked up into the face of my captor.  WOW.

"Thank you, I can't say anyone has ever said that to me before. I mean I've been called sexy, hot, attractive, even cute occasionally but I can't say I've ever had a woman just come out and say 'wow' like that"

"Dammit" I was mortified, I could not believe i had just said that out loud.

"Don't worry it was very flattering" He reassured me. Ughh, I'll just bet it was. It was at about that moment i realized I was still wrapped in his arms. I struggled to break out of his hold and started to  walk away quite quickly, until I felt a muscular arm wrap around my waist.

        "Hey! where you goin?"

"Let. Me. Go!" I said in the strongest voice i could manage.

"Whoa, Whoa no need to be affraid, I'm just trying to help you. is there anything you need?"

Yes. I need him to let go of me. I sucked in a breath to tell him just that, when i caught a whiff of him. He smelled absolutely delicious. He smelled like clean laundry, a little sweat, and just plain man. I hadn't been this close to a man since-no! I will not think about him right now. I just need to focus on getting away from this absolutely gorgeous man. I looked up into his face. he had great bone structure. the cut of his jaw was just right, you know, when it's sharp enough to be rugged but soft enough to be boyish. His nose was straight, save for a small bump indicating he'd broken it once or twice. His lips looked so soft, I just  wanted to touch them to-No! no no no! What am I doing? This needs to stop right now.

I shook my head and again tried to tell him to unhand me but as soon as I looked up into his face I lost my train of thought. I was again stunned by his looks but this time it was his eyes. I had never seen anything like them. they were the strangest blend of blue and grey almost silver, but not quite. they were beautiful.

"Hi" i breathed, sounding like a complete idiot i'm sure.

"Oh, so now you talk? well i suppose that's good enough, now i'm gonna say it again, is there anything you need?" it took me a second to realize he was waiting for my answer.

"Umm, no thanks i'm fine" i attempted to break free but he only tightened his hold on me.

"Are you sure? not one thing? Hey! How about breakfast? i know a great little place just around the corner, I'm Dave by the way, what's your name?" he said all in a rush.

        "Becca-my name's Becca"

"Well Becca, how bout it? you up for some breakfast?"

"No thanks, i'm not really hungry" my stomach chose that exact moment to let out the loudest growl yet. he looked at my stomach then into my eyes

"Looks like your tummy doesn't agree with that" he grabbed my hand and started to drag me down the street. Well looks like I was eating breakfast with a gorgeous stranger.
