Later on, Maeva and I stopped at her place. She had some plan for me. We were in her bedroom, standing in front of her mirror, trying on new dresses.

"Frida, it's your first date, and since it's your first wish on your bucketlist, it has to be special," she began.

"Okay," I said, frowning.

"Stop with this face. You should be happy I'm giving you a hand."

"Lucky me," I mumbled.

"What's the matter?" she frowned.

"It's way too short," I said, motioning to my legs.

"Your point?"

I looked at my reflection in the mirror again. She let out a sigh.

"Okay, Frida. Don't worry. It's okay if you wear a dress. I mean since you're not a man, it's totally appropriate."

"It's not that. I don't want him to think that I'm easy."

"Please, Frida! Stop!" she cut me off, rolling her eyes.

I sat down heavily on her bed, behind her where a few flash cards were strewn. I pulled out my cell phone from my bag to check out Lucas' twitter account.

"So? What do you think about my dress? Do you think it suits me?" she said.

"Yeah. It's a pretty cool one," I said without looking up at her.

"I think so. I like all these red mouths all around my body. It's just as if they're all kissing me. My dress's kissing my ass."

I looked up at her. She was twerking in front of the mirror.

"How was that?" she added.

Scary, I thought to myself. I forced a smile. My mother was right. Maeva was a freak. That was probably why I liked her so much.

"What are you doin'?" she frowned.

"Nothing," I said.

I was checking Lucas' facebook page.

"Forget it. You've got to move on," she said.

"They're calling him Casanova. Do you think it's related to me?"

"You're overthinking it."

That was the sentence she used to tell me anytime she wanted to change the subject.

"Let it go. You should consider yourself lucky," she went on.

"Why?"

"At least; they're not giving you a nickname."

I knew what she meant by that. She was referring to my nickname in middle school: Joker. Batman's enemy. And all this because of ONE lousy smile in a class picture! Maybe, it was the biggest smile in the picture, or MAYBE I was surrounded by a bunch of depressed people. Anyway, all this was behind me now. I didn't know why Maeva brought that up again. That's probably why I should have made new friends when I got to high school. Maybe, it wasn't a bad thing that I was gonna change school.

"You should have stopped me," I mumbled.

"Turn it off," she said.

I turned off my phone. Her cat came to me at the same moment.

"Can you stop the noise, please?" I said.

"It's not noise. It's music. Columba Aspexit. I love this song," she added, swatting me.
