He slowly leaned in. I closed my eyes. His lips were very close to mine. Suddenly, somebody knocked on the bedroom door. We broke apart.

The door opened.
"Sorry to interrupt you kids, I just wanted to know if you were hungry. I've got some snacks downstairs in the kitchen." his mom asked us.
"Um, n-no I'm not hungry, ar-are you hungry Chloe?" he stuttered.
"Urm, actually- yeah I am hungry." I replied, wanting to avoid this awkward situation.
"Alright. I'll get some snacks from downstairs." she said. And just like that, she closed the door and headed downstairs.

Neither Thomas nor I moved. We just stood there.
"Look, I-" he tried to say. Suddenly, my cellphone rang. I took my phone out of my pocket and checked who was calling me. The screen read "Mom". I silently thanked her.
"I've gotta take this call." I told him. I exited his room. I answered the call.

"Hey Mom." I said into the phone.
"Hi, honey. I hope that I didn't interrupt anything. I just wanted to know if you could make it back for dinner. I wouldn't want to make dinner to find out that you can't make it back in time." my mom told me.
"Urm, actually Mom I'm about to leave right now. I'll be back in half an hours time." I answered.

I hung up the phone and walked back to Thomas' room.
"Hey, my mom needs me at home. My grandmother is sick and she wants me to take care of the house while she visits her." I lied through my teeth. Gosh, I just realized how lame my excuse was.
"Oh, okay. Do you want me to drive you home?" he asked me.
"It's alright. I can call a taxi." I replied almost too quickly.
"Please. I insist. That way, you don't need to waste your money and I need to refill my gas soon so I can do so when I send you." he replied, clearly not giving up. Darn, he's good at coming up with reasons. There's no way I can decline his offer now.
"Fine." I said, defeated.

We went downstairs, where his mother was preparing snacks.
"Mom, Chloe has got go back home due to some family affairs." Thomas told his mother.
"Oh, I see. Well, it was nice meeting you. Would you like us to call you a taxi?" she asked me.
"No, it's fine. Thomas is gonna drive me home." I responded to his mother.
"Be safe, guys." she told me as Thomas went to get his car keys.

We left once he found his car keys. We didn't say anything on the way home other than when I told him my house address. Luckily my house wasn't very far from his, so I didn't have to bare this silence for a long time.

He stopped at my house.
"Well, goodbye." I told him before exiting the car.
"Bye. See you in school tomorrow." he replied.

I entered my house without even looking back at him.
