"Smart" can mean many things. Street smart, book smart, problem solving, trivia, etc. In fact, a persons IQ is only a measurement of their problem solving ability. There are students that are academically gifted, but get confused by traffic laws. Vio may read more than his brothers, but that certainly didn't mean he knew everything.
"E-yes?"
Shadow and Blue could hardly contain themselves.
"Ok ok," Shadow stifled his laughter. He asked the riddle again, "if y-e-s spells 'yes', what does e-y-e-s spell?" Blue quieted down to fully experience the smug know-it-all Vio being totally baffled.
The comedic timing was almost perfect.
"... eh-yes?"
The two burst out laughing. If there was a gilded trophy for funniest moment of the month, this would be it.
At this point, their hog squeal was pissing off Vio, but it was also fuel of determination. Determination to figure out what the heck the answer was. Writing the letters into his palm with his finger, the word felt familiar but he couldn't remember all the way. "I dont- what?" he stuttered with a furrowed brow, much to the entertainment of Blue and Shadow.
"If y-e-s-"
"Shut up."
Shadow swallowed a chuckle, "you can do it, I believe in you," he teased.
Vio grabbed a pen and wrote down the letters. E-y-e-s. He slammed the pen down on the desk with such frustrated force, Green ran in thinking something was wrong.
