When everything was said and done, after hyrule was saved, and after Link was just one of himself, he still felt incomplete.
Link had gotten so used to being multiple, that he developed the habit of referring to himself as "we". Zelda had been understanding, or at least tried to be, when he explained that he felt like more than one person in his body. Reminding himself that it's just him felt lonely, he didn't want to think like that. Maybe if he daydreamed hard and often enough, he would magically be four again, and they could all talk and fight like they used to. It was wishful thinking, and maladaptive daydreaming would prevent him from guarding the town properly. His father convinced him to take a brake.
He had also started talking to himself more as if talking to another person. Alone in his room he wondered out loud, "are we being weird?"
"No, it's normal considering what we went through."
"Well, we wouldn't be stuck in our room if we weren't being weird..."
"Hm, what do you think?" Still, he was referring to himself.
Link glanced at the wall opposite to the window, evening sunset melting through. He looked to his shadow casted on the wall. "Well," he began slowly this time, unsure of himself, "what do you think?"
The shadow made no unusual movements, only following his physical body.
He didn't like being alone.
