The days flew by quick. It's already the middle of August and an entire month since Regina and I broke up. At first, like any normal person, I was depressed but I also took that time to build my walls and create a hard shell over my heart for protection. My heart is officially safe from any pain trying to intrude.
On another note, it's almost my birthday. Henry seems way more excited about it than I am. I can't believe he'll be turning two! I mean he is extremely smart for a two year old and way more mature but still! He's getting so big! Anyways, he can't stop talking about his birthday. Right now he's spinning around and bouncing all over the place, putting on a show for me without even knowing how entertained his mom is.
"Bir'day! Bir'day! My bir'day!" He sings loudly. When he's done I give him my biggest smile while opening my arms. If I know my son, he'll come crashing into my embrace any second to shy away and protect himself from my compliments. He can be really bashful sometimes.
"That was great kid!" I beam and squeeze his tiny little body. "What do you want to do for your birthday?"
His face lights up with so much hope and happiness as many thoughts of fun things unfolds. "Toy store! Lot o' toys!" I snuggle our noses together earning the most adorable giggles from his pudgy face.
"I think we could do that," I promise with a sure smile as back up. Henry takes the bate and cheers happily.
"Yaaaaay!-Mommy I hungry." He pouts.
God I hate that pout! That pout is my perpetrator-I always fall easy to its command. It never fails. Truthfully I'd rather see Henry smiling and showing his adorable little teeth than pout, but he'a a toddler. There isn't much I can actually do about it.
"How about we take a walk to the diner?" I offer. "We can see Ruby."
The thought of seeing Ruby excites him and has him frantically nodding his head with a cheeky grin. I'm glad he loves my friends and they love him just as much. I decided to tell Ruby, Tink, and Belle about Henry because I thought hiding my amazing son started to look stupid on my end. They were vey nice about it and more than accepting -they didn't judge at all. But still they all agreed to keep it to themselves because I'd much rather not have people in my business anyways. If it does get out though, I don't really care because Henry is my son and that's all that matters.
Today is nice and sunny. The air feels nice and refreshing; it's perfect for a walk. Henry waddles happily beside me and gladly obeys my rules. He's never really been a problem unlike Neal who like to run and round and send me on a wild goose chase. That little boy is really going through the terrible two's early. I just hope Henry never starts; he's such an angel.
"Look! Cars!" He emphasizes the 's' in 'cars' and points to every single car that drives by. He adores them all for some reason.
"Yea kid. One day you will have a car." I coo, lifting him my arms before we cross the street. I always do this because I feel it's safer that way.
"I get a big monster car!" He roars.
I chuckle and place him back safely on the ground as soon as we get to the other side. His tiny fingers wrap firmly against mine immediately as we continue to walk. StoryBrooke truly is a town to admire in the summer. Everyone seems so happy and at peace as they enjoy the weather. So far, for most days, the sky has been cloudless. I have to admit it's very charming.
"Eat-Eat!" He cheers as soon as the diner comes into eyesight.
The familiar sound of the bell dinging gives me that comfortable feeling once again. I still have yet to feel at home in this town, my own house, or anywhere really. I like it here, don't get me wrong, but I just feel so out of place everywhere I go. So the diner typically acts as a safe haven for me especially because Ruby is always here.
