"I don't know how we will be able to gain access." Kaldur said, talking to the others as I walked inside. They didn't notice me. "Batman says he cannot secure permission for us to go."
"What are you guys talking about?" I asked.
"Nothing." Connor glanced at me. I looked at Kaldur and raised an eyebrow.
"The League has received reports that there will be an assassination attempt on the Queen of Vlatvia at a royal ball. Vlatvia is an absolute monarchy and if anything happens to the queen, her uncle, the villain Count Vertigo will ascend to the throne."
"Dude!"
"I am sorry, Wally. It is improper for me to withhold information from the royal family."
As the Team started debating ideas, I pressed the side of my closed fist against my lips.
Mom mentioned something about an invitation to this. I don't know if she responded.
"Robin, do you think you can hack into the reservations for the ball?" I looked at him.
"Yeah, but it won't do any good. They'll see we aren't nobility or that we aren't who we say we are."
"Can you just do it? I want to see something."
Robin nodded and pulled up the computer screen. His fingers flew across the keyboard. Small red version of his face before turning green. I couldn't tell if the cackle that cut through the air was from them or the actual Robin.
"I'm in. Why'd you want me to hack this?"
"My uncle dropped an invitation off for my mom. I don't know if she responded, but I'm pretty sure Orm was going to attend. Something about solidifying relations or something."
"What do Atlanteans need from surface countries?" Artemis asked.
Kaldur answered that for me. "Pledges to cut down on ocean pollution. Things such using less plastic."
"I appreciate them trying, but not the way they're doing it." I sighed. "Plastic straws aren't the issue. It's just the industry trying to shift the blame onto the public."
"Guys, focus. How does this help us get into the palace?" Wally asked.
I smiled. "Royal families are allowed to bring a small group of guards with them. Orm doesn't usually bother. If you add me onto the list, I can take you guys with me."
"Your Highness, I cannot allow you to be put in danger like this." Kaldur said.
"The way I see it, you have no choice. This is the only way you're going to be able to get in. Do you guys know what size armor you wear?"
Everyone but Kaldur shook their heads. I sighed and eyed each of them. "Robin is most definitely a small. Connor will be whatever size Kaldur wears, and I know the palace has that on file. Wally can probably deal with that size too. As for you two..." I looked at the girls. "We're only supposed to have two guards each. So which one of you feels like getting an honorary place in the court?"
"What? What do you mean by that?" Megan asked, tilting her head slightly.
"Well, technically speaking, I don't have a lady-in-waiting. Cause I'm not in the palace enough for me to actually have members of my own court. It's not common knowledge, and it should get you through the door."
"I didn't think this was how the royal court worked."
"Technically not. If any nobles in Poseidonis finds out I appointed an Earther to be a lady-in-waiting I'll never hear the end of it. Now which one is it going to be?"
Megan and Artemis looked at each other and seemed to have a silent conversation.
Megan looked at me. "I'll do it. After all, I can shapeshift. I won't have to worry about what I'm wearing getting in the way."
"Yeah, see that's also the reason I'm thinking Artemis might want to do it."
"I can't fight in a dress." Artemis said. "I mean I can, but it's awkward."
"I get that, I really do, but Atlantean royal guards don't use bows. The armor would get in the way. But I guess if I got ahold of Tyson I could ask him to make adjustments. Uh, when is this anyway?"
"Two days from now."
I nodded. "Okay. I'll see if I can get the forges to alter some armor for Artemis. I'll need to call Mera and ask her to send me the other armor and one of my dresses. And my diadem." I sighed.
"Diadem?" Megan asked, confused.
"It's basically a tiara, but it's not as delicate and has less jewels. Think like a metal band but with some points. I have tiaras but my hair gets caught in them all of the time. A lot of them were birthday gifts and I have to wear them at least once. The diadem is from my dad."
"Who is your dad?" Wally asked.
"That's not important right now. I need to go call my aunt. Can you send that information to the palace? Thanks." I walked away, leaving Kaldur to send the information to the palace. Once I made it into my room, I pulled some water out of the air and placed my hand in it.
I mumbled a small spell that Mera taught me. Instantly, I could see her sitting on her chaise, reading a book.
"Mera."
She looked up at me. "Hello Percy. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, but can you do me a favor?"
...
My stomach is trying to digest itself but the food is almost done so I don't want to eat.
See yah
