Calum’s PoV:
“Yes Mali.”
“What about money for lunch?”
“Ten dollars.”
“Is that enough?”
“MALI! I’ll be fine, I’ve been to school before I’m not fucking Cady Harren” I assured my older sister.
“Alright fine” she sighed “have a good day.”
I left before she could give me the same speech mum had given me last night (a bunch of ‘try harder at this school’, ‘make friends’ and ‘No more pranks’).
I pulled out my headphones and plugged them into my phone. Putting the earbuds in I clicked the latest playlist I’ve made and put it on shuffle. The moment the music started playing a smile made its way to my face.
What I like about you sounded through my ears as I walked through the school grounds. There were people everywhere. Girls with faces caked with makeup wearing short skirts flocked around football players like sheep. A couple of big groups stood around casually talking, smaller groups sat on the oval waiting for the bell. It was a typical high school.
I spotted a building slightly bigger than the rest and decided to get closer. I turned the corner to see a sign reading Administration and started making my way towards it.
My phone buzzed signalling someone had messaged me. Checking who messaged me I bumped into someone spilling the contents of their bag all over the floor.
I’m so sorry. Are you okay?” I asked the-very pretty- girl I had just knocked over.
“Yeah I’m okay I guess, someone took my glasses and now I can’t see all too well.”
“Oh um can I help you or something?” I questioned helping her pick up her books.
“You could-”
“Natasha?” She was cut off as someone called what I assumed was her name.
“That’s my brother! It’s okay now, he’ll help me. Thanks again, um?”
“Calum. My name is Calum.” And with that she walked the short distance to the boy who called her over.
I continued on the path to the office thinking about Natasha the entire way.
The homeroom bell went as I pushed the door open, walking inside.
The room was fairly big. The desk took most of the space turning into an office type area further back. It ran from the left wall stopping a metre or so from the right creating a hallway. The front doors were glass and three chairs sat at each side of the room.
Behind the desk sat two ladies, one seemed to be in her late 40’s and the other was much younger. Deciding the older woman may be grumpy I walked towards the other girl.
She smiled at me, dimples denting her cheeks. Her brown hair was pulled into a neat ponytail and had thick rimmed purple glasses on.
“Hi, you must be the new kid?” her voice was soft and had a nice ring to it.
“Uh yeah, Calum Hood”
“Okay here’s your timetable, locker number and a late pass. Luke should be here soon, he’ll show you around and hopefully introduce you people” she paused almost frowning. “Please be nice to him, he’s a good kid.”
“Yeah su-” I was cut off by a tall blonde stumbling into the room.
“Hi is the guy here ye-?” he paused looking at me. “Hey! You’re the guy who was helping Tashy this morning! Thankyou soo much. Those girls are such meanies, they should just go away!”
