Sunny gives me an amused smile when she sees my dumbfounded lioness look. Somehow, this reveal makes me feel dumber than usual. It's no wonder this place is called the Earth Kingdom, for goodness sake.
"The other five Kingdoms also have royal families who have the capabilities to wield an element. The location of their kingdoms also reflect on their magic. Earth Kingdom prospers with lush forests and Earthly creatures - the Gueses and Animus. There are also the Wind Kingdom, Water Kingdom, and Fire Kingdom. Each Kingdoms have their own royal families. Just like us, the rulers and heirs are gifted their own Guardians by their Gods," Sunny explains, unpacking the suitcase. I sit close to her and watch as she folds the clothes she brought from Earth. I didn't realise that she brought some things from her old home, including the scrapbook that I made for her a few years ago.
"There are many members of the royal family in my Kingdom, like my Uncle Alex and Aunt Anastasia. They're married, by the way. I think they're third cousins or something... The point is, although they are not in line for the throne, they can also wield the Earth due to our bloodline. That's why they were chosen to be my guardians on Earth."
I nod my head in understanding. I remember thinking that their house is always full of some sort of blooming plants which makes the house smells amazing. I, on the other hand, managed to kill a cactus.
"It's the same for the other Kingdoms. However, their Guardians have different set of gifts. We don't know much about other Guardians since any secrets about them could expose the weakness of the leaders' best protection, just like how the people don't know much about your gift. As far as public knowledge goes, a leader, their partner and heir choose anyone and they will be gifted by the Gods to shapeshift into any form of an Animus. In truth, you will also be able to gain a human or a Guese form. Past Terra Guardians prefer to stick to being an Animus as it is the easiest form to master," Sunny tells me as she organise her whole room. I lie down on the floor as she continues to talk.
"Guardians of the Fire Kingdom - also known as Ignis Guardians - are dragons. I don't know much about what they can do besides the obvious large bodies, hard scales, ability to fly and breathe fire... Their ferocious image is enough to make their enemies think twice about trying to kill their rulers. Despite our tense relationship with the Fire Kingdom, we know a lot about their Guardians simply because they can't hide as easily as our Guardians.
"The Earth Kingdom has the closest relationship with the Wind Kingdom as the land of the mountains are pretty close to us. A few of the royal members marry into their families and vice versa. The Guardians of the Wind Kingdoms, Ventus Guardians, are basically warriors with wings. The Wind Kingdom have a majority human population, followed by Animus. Humans are chosen as Guardians among the warrior academy that my sister is attending. Ventus Guardians are given wings, supernatural strength and senses. They're basically like angels," Sunny speaks, grabbing a book and turning to a page. She shows me a photo of a woman with wings with a sword in hand. The drawing looks really epic and comic book-like. I really hope I could see a Ventus Guardian one day.
Sunny puts the book back and rearranges her collection of books. I notice that most of the books are in a different language, which makes me wonder if English is truly the first language of the Earth Kingdom.
"The Water Kingdom is located underwater, as the name suggested. The capital is called the City of Atlantis," Sunny says with a smirk which makes me chuckle. Who knew that human myths are somewhat close to the truth? "Their people consists of merpeople, Sirens and aquatic Animus. Unlike typical royal families that look like humans, the royals of the Water Kingdoms are merpeople. The Aqua Guardians usually take the form of huge mythical water beings like the Leviathan, Hydra or Kraken. We don't hear much from the Water Kingdom as they tend to isolate themselves from the rest of us, but I've heard they had many civil wars among their own royal members..."
My eyes would have pop out from the amount of information I have to digest within the last hour. It's amazing to think that the Guardians of each Kingdom have their own different talents. I wonder who would emerge as winner if all the Guardians battle each other, but I guess it would be the end of this world if it comes to a war.
I tilt my head in thought. The thing that was sent to kill Sunny said that the King of the Fire Kingdom was the one who sent it. A growl threatens to leave my throat. If anyone dare to harm her, I don't care if I have to battle a freaking dragon to kill the king.
Sunny instantly traces circles behind my furry back with concern. "What are you thinking of, Jord?"
I grumble unhappily, wanting to ask her more about the Fire Kingdom. Unfortunately, she doesn't understand. Before I am prepared, my body shakes uncontrollably. Sunny understands the signs and takes a step back to give me space to transform into my next form.
The fur on my body seems to disappear. Once again, I feel myself shrinking smaller than I was when I was a hamster. This time, I'm not fat or furry. I'm a hairless tiny four-legged creature. I look down at my hands to see that there's some sort of sticky substance on my fingers that is able to make me climb walls. My long heavy tail doesn't move much, yet it feels very detachable with the amount of fear I'm feeling right now.
My previous intimidating personality is gone, replaced by a fearful feeling.
Sunny gently picks me up and bring us to her make-up mirror. I am surprised to see a tiny lizard in Sunny's hand. I open my teethless mouth and let out some clicking sounds of questions.
"It seems that you're a Leapord gecko. You look so adorable," Sunny murmurs with a smile. "Would you be comfortable on my shoulder? Now that I'm done unpacking my things, I think I'm going to pay my old friends a visit. Chirp once if you agree and chirp twice if you prefer I carry you by hand."
I think for a moment and look up at the perfect perch of her shoulder. It'll be a good place for me to hide while have an amazing view. I chirp once.
Sunny carefully place me on her shoulder and retrieve her personal Royal Guards before making her way to the City of Arbor.
