Rachel soaked up all the attention she received from Dean, Arthur, Derek and Merlin. They took shifts guarding her, while the rest watched over us. Apparently, the 'bad guys' knew exactly who this chosen one was. And the fact that they targeted her...uh.
It was Derek's turn, and I felt a small pang in my gut. I ignored it, shoving it to the back of my mind as I wrapped a bandage around Alec. I volunteered to help Merlin patch up the rest of the group. Seeing that I was quite capable. And then I was assigned to help the one boy I didn't like. Typical.
"Look, Sandy, I'm sorry," Alec began. I shook my head.
"I just wish that you tried...I wouldn't have blamed you if you left. I was pretty much jammed, but still," I muttered. I wrapped the bandage around him, and he grabbed my hand.
"I know, I was a coward..."
"Hey, pretty-boy," Dean suddenly came into view and I frowned at his sudden interruption.
"You're not the only one she's got to patch up,"
I gave a slight laugh. Figures. I thought hard and fast. Merlin was a Warlock. Derek was a werewolf, but what were Dean and Arthur? It was so weird. So random...among other things. I was still wrapping my head around the idea that I wasn't even on earth anymore. I thought bout my aunt, and wondered how worried to death they actually may be at this current moment.
I finished Alec then looked around. What other people was I supposed to patch up again? Alec rejoined the group, and I followed. Mary grabbed my hand and we hugged each other. Whether it was out of trauma, or stress, I don't know. But I didn't realize I needed it until she hugged me. I took a deep breath, blinking away the tears. We were just attacked last night. By something so scary. And I was stupid enough to try and attack it. I winced as a small pain emanated from my right shoulder. It must have been from the fall.
"So," Arthur spoke. "All of you are now fixed, we have decided to train you...so that you can protect yourselves should the situation arise..." Arthur glanced at me and I knew exactly what incident he was referring to. "Now...I'm going to be honest here. You are all cowards, you are pathetic, and you will not survive."
"Is this supposed to be a pep talk?" Brad's voice rang from the group.
"Yes," Arthur spoke. "If we train you, we might actually stand a chance of getting you all out in one piece...Sandy is a classic example of bravery and stupidity combined."
I wanted to shrivel back as eyes dawned on me. Why on earth did he have to use me as a blatant example?
I heard a slight laugh and glanced to see Rachel standing next to Derek, smirking. I could not believe it. If it wasn't for me, she would have been impaled.
"He's being an idiot..." Mary whispered to me.
"Maybe he's also a right idiot..." I spoke.
"Don't take it personally, he means well," Merlin whispered. I wasn't even aware that he was standing so close by. I glanced at him and he gave me an encouraging wink.
"So...Dean, Derek and I are going to choose who we mentor...it's best to learn as quickly as possible..." Arthur spoke. "When we're not training, we'll be travelling to the city of Coriah...there you should be safe from all possible attacks. That's all, Dean, you get to choose first..."
Dean walks to the front and I hear a few girls giggle. He winked at them then glanced at the rest of us. "So...Brad, Alec, Mitchell, Andy, Britney, Steven, Donald, Lara, and special one on one training for you Rachel."
Rachel laughed and I rolled my eyes. Of course, he'd pick her. I swallowed the bitter bile rising in my throat. I had serious jealousy issues.
"Derek?" Dean motioned.
Derek stood and I felt my heartbeat rise as he scanned the group. "Mary, Matt, Lenard, Albert..." The list carried on, but my name was not called. I bit my lip. Why didn't he want to train me?
Arthur stepped into the centre and I groaned. Those who were left he would train, and he just insulted me to my core.
"So, everyone that is left will obviously be trained by me, but there is one person I would like a one on one session with myself," Arthur spoke.
I sighed and glanced at Rachel's smug smile.
"Sandy..."
I gulped and looked at Arthur. His eyes penetrated and he could probably see my fear.
"Me? Why?"
"No time to explain, everyone in your groups, we have an hour group training and an hour one on one...Merlin, watch over Rachel and Sandy will you?"
"Of course..." Merlin grinned.
The first forty -five minutes were torture, with Rachel rattling down and insulting me. I thought I could tolerate it, until...
"You know, your pathetic running away and attempt to rescue me was just such a desperate plea for attention...did your daddy not pamper you enough while he was alive?"
I dropped the branches that I had been helping Merlin gather.
"Sandy, no..." Merlin spoke but it was too late. Chosen one or not, Rachel was about to get her ass handed to her.
I jumped on her and screamed. She retaliated by scratching me and grabbing my hair. She yanked it and we started rolling across the field. I punched her, but she kicked me in the stomach.
Just then as I was on top of her I felt a strong pair of arms wrap around me, and pluck me from her. Derek was on the other side, holding Sandy back. So who was holding me?
"Easy, Tiger," I turned red at that nickname. I just realized then that all the groups were returning, and we were now the stars of the drama. Dean put me down and twirled me around so that I could face him. "I'm supposed to be the one to train her, remember?" I frowned. I thought he'd be mad at me attacking the chosen one they were supposed to protect. He looked utterly amused, however.
"Sandy..." Arthur's voice rang through. The group behind him looked like they were about to faint.
Then he said the dreaded words.
"Your turn..."
