"What a day!" Courtney yawned. She flopped down on her soft bed and relished in the warmth of the sheets. After a hard day's work, it felt so good to lie down.
"First day of law school, yay Courtney!" Gwen walked over to Country's bed and sat down next to her. Courtney looked up and grinned, despite being so tired. Gwen was wearing her usual black night dress, and she was brushing her teeth.
"Really, on the bed?" Courtney couldn't help but laugh.
"Sorry!" Gwen said through a mouthful of toothpaste. The pasty girl just got pastier. She got up and went to finish in the bathroom, "I know you want everything to be clean in here. Probably shouldn't have picked me for your roommate, huh?"
Courtney sat up hugged her pillow. She knew she should change into her PJs, but she was too tired to get up. "You're my best friend, silly." She told Gwen once the goth girl returned. "I'm so glad we got accepted into the same college. Gave us a chance to... catch up."
"Me to," Gwen returned to the bed, toothbrushless, and rested her hand on Courtney's shoulder. She smiled. "It's so neat this school offers art classes too! They offer everything, actually."
"Yeah, Mike and Zoey are in the drama department, and DJ's in the culinary classes, just to name a few."
"It's like a Total Drama reunion!" Gwen laughed. "Almost everyone is here."
"Almost everyone," Courtney mumbled, hugging her pillow tighter.
"Oh," Gwen fell silent. She seemed to know what Courtney was thinking.
"Well, at least Chris isn't the principle here," Courtney said, snapping out of her thoughts and slapping on a grin. She was trying to lighten the mood, for both their sakes.
"I know right?" Gwen agreed. She looked grateful that Courtney changed the subject.
After chatting for a bit, Gwen went to the other side of the room and crawled into her own bed. She pulled out her phone and face timed her boyfriend, Trent. He and the other Drama Brothers skipped college and were on tour. They hit it big.
Courtney was happy for them, and Gwen for reconnecting with Trent. She felt a strange emptiness as she pulled the sheets over herself and turned off the nightlight. She knew why she felt this way, but she hated to admit it.
"No way!" Gwen cried to the phone. She covered her mouth. "Sorry, Courtney! I'll wrap up this call. You must be tired..."
"It's fine," Courtney said, pulling the covers tighter around herself. "Say hi to Trent for me."
"The Drama Brothers are coming here next month!" Gwen whispered in the dark. She turned back to her screen.
"Love you babe," Trent's voice said over the phone.
"Can't wait to see you!" Gwen kissed the screen, then turned it off.
Courtney reached for her own phone. She scrolled through the contacts until she found the one labeled "Duncan". She ran her fingers across the screen. His contact picture was taken after Total Drama Action. Courtney spotted his heart tattoo on his muscular arm. She used to have one like that...
Even after their breakup, or all their fallen outs for that matter, she hadn't deleted his number. Was she being stupid? She had no idea where he was now. Still in prison, for blowing up Chris's mansion?
He should have gotten an award for that, Courtney reflected, I should have checked on him before... Suddenly her finger slipped and she pushed the call button.
She screamed and jabbed at the phone to turn it off. But then she dropped it on the floor.
"Hello?" Came Duncan's muffled voice at the other end. Oh gosh, he sounded the exact same.
Oh crap!
Courtney cowered under her covers, too scared to pick up the phone on the floor.
"Courtney, wat?" Gwen said sleepily, as if she hadn't just been on the phone with her boyfriend. Courtney peaked out from under the sheets and watched as Gwen got up, picked up the phone, and put it to her ear.
"What? Duncan!?" Gwen gasped. Country couldn't hear what Duncan was saying on the other end.
"Yeah, we're roommates," Gwen said to the phone, then suddenly her eyes widened. "No way!" Gwen put down the phone and covered the receiver with her hand, "Courtney, Duncan wants to talk to you."
Courtney shook her head madly and mouth, 'no,' when Gwen tried to hand her the phone.
Gwen seamed to understand. She put the phone back to her ear, "Courtney didn't mean to call you. She's asleep now, actually. Yeah, I'll let her know. Nice talking to you too. Bye." Gwen hung up. She handed the phone back to Courtney.
"Why would you call him if you didn't want to talk to him?" She demanded.
Courtney sighed and sat up. "I didn't mean to... I'm not ready..."
"Well, I hope you will be tomorrow," Gwen said, yawning. "Because Duncan goes to this school too."
Hi guys!! This is my first story published on here, and of course it's a fan fiction. I just got bored at 12 at night and decided to write this. I've recently watched Total Drama and was totally crushed that (spoilers) Duncney didn't become canon. So I decided to write my take on their relationship. Let me know what you think! More coming soon! :)
