Duncan collapsed onto his bed and let out a long sigh. He kept replying his reunion with Courtney over and over in his mind.

Did I mess up? He thought. He had known she was going to be there, heck, that was the only reason he went to the party, but when he saw her standing their... her perfect body rocking that purple dress, he was caught off guard.

Courtney... he couldn't stop thinking about her. He had tried so many times over the years to let it go. But now he knew that had been a mistake.

"Yo Duncan!" Geoff walked into the room. "Wasn't my party sick? It's so cool Bridgette let me throw it in her room!"

"Yeah, because there was no way in hell I'd let you have it in here," Duncan rolled his eyes and sat up on his bed, "seriously dude, I like a good party as much as the next guy, but..."

"You're not in the mood, I get it," Geoff was wearing his iconic pink jacket, 6 pack, and blue shorts. Duncan sighed again.

"You okay?" Geoff asked. "Oh wait, did you see..."

"Yep," Duncan nodded, "Courtney."

Geoff whistled. "And?"

"And what?" Geoff was a great guy, but he was always so nosy. And loud. And annoying. And loud.

"Are you going to tell her you're not actually a student here, you crashed in my bunk illegally, and you just came here because you heard she got accepted here?" Geoff took off his cowboy hat and hung it up on a hook beside his bed.

Duncan didn't answer. He laid back down and rolled over onto his side, facing away from Geoff and trying to block him out, as well as his own inner demons. If Courtney finds out I'm not a successful student here, let alone an actual college student, will she still want to reconnect with me? He thought fearfully.

Does she even want to reconnect with me?

He spent a lot of time the past week catching up with Gwen. She was an amazing girl, but he felt no romantic feelings towards her anymore. Regardless of the fact that she was dating Trent, he hadn't been attracted to her at all.

Geoff seemed to sense his confused thoughts, so he didn't say anything else. Duncan heard the creak of his bed as his "roommate" settled down for the night.

Duncan thought about his past with Courtney... Gwen had been a brief flirtation, but his relationship with Courtney had been on a much deeper level.

Maybe I'm delusional, he thought bitterly, punching his pillow. Four years was a long time. She had clearly moved on, and maybe she didn't want anything to do with him, a past mistake weighing her down...

But she had agreed to go on a date with him tomorrow.

Duncan smiled despite his depressing thoughts. He didn't want to get his hopes up, but he just wanted to apologize to Courtney, clarity a few things, and reconnect with the beautiful brunette... I wouldn't blame her if she hates me... he thought. But to be fair, she was partly to blame too. A high-maintenance chick with a superiority complex...

Yet she had loosened up around him, had fun, was able to be bold and brave and break the rules and look beautiful doing it. He didn't want to drag her down a dark path, especially not after what had happened to him over the last few years... but he wanted her to know she didn't have to be perfect all the time.

But she's perfect to me...

Crap, when did I get so sappy? Duncan stuck out his tongue to get the taste out of his mouth, his newest piercing catching the moonlight and slicing through the dark.

But Duncan didn't mind being (ugh) soft. He hated to admit it, but around, and because of, Courtney, he could be himself.

Now if he just didn't screw up their meeting tomorrow, he might actually win his princess back.

But was he a worthy prince?
...

Duncan, my boy!! I think it's important to give them both chapters so we can see that they both feel the same way. They miss each other and both feel regret, but they don't know how to take the next step. How will their "date" go? Next chapter coming soon!
