*Warning, swears in this chapter!!*
Duncan led Courtney over to a table near the back of the coffee shop. He was trying to play it cool, but inside, he was screaming.
Come on Duncan, you're not supposed to be the flustered one! He thought.
"Are you okay?" Courtney asked. Duncan looked at her. He felt like his heart was trying to jump out of his chest, it was beating so fast. Then again, Courtney was never one to blush either, he thought, yet here she was, her beautiful face glowing red.
Duncan realized he was staring. Courtney didn't look away. She demanded eye contact, and Duncan didn't want to break it.
"Yeah, its all good," Duncan found his voice and slapped on a grin. "How do you like your coffee?"
"How sweet," the moment was gone as Courtney sat down and picked up the menu. Duncan sat in the chair opposite and also looked at the menu.
"I hope you don't have that god awful phone this time," Duncan said with a slight smirk.
"What, my PDA?" Courtney looked up from her menu. Oh gosh, if it was possible, she was even more beautiful then when he had left her. Why did he ever let her go?
Because she became a bitch and an unpleasant control freak... he remembered. This was the girl who made a list of everything to change about him!
But he knew that had been a product of her being afraid he would let go, give up on their relationship. And she had been right. But it was ironic... in a move to hold on to him, she let him slip away...
But he had always been scared too. He didn't want to lose the only person who could see him being, ugh, nice. With Gwen, it was bad boy 24/7. With Courtney, he could drop the act and actually act like a human being.
I love that woman... he thought.
Courtney waved a hand in his face. "Are you sure you're okay?" She demanded.
Duncan snapped out of his thoughts.
"Yes, now stop being so uptight."
"I was no..." Courtney scowled and buried her head back in the menu. "Hmm, I think I'll get a ..."
"No whip double chocolate cappuccino with a shot of expresso with no milk because you're lactose intolerant?"
Courtney looked up from her menu and blinked her beautiful black eyes at him. "How did you..."
"You made me pick up so many coffees for you, you think I'd forget?" Duncan said. He made it sound like he minded, but he never did. He'd never forget Courtney's favorite things...
"Well, you're right," Courtney decided. She put the menu down and looked out the window. Duncan started to panic slightly. Did she expect him to talk first? He hadn't planned this far!
Courtney's the one who always has a plan! I just wing it!
So he winged it.
"So, Princess..."
"Please don't call me that."
"Darling?"
"That's my line."
"Babe?"
"Yuck."
