A tiny ivory hand shakily held the hand of a black male hedgehog. His small yellow eyes couldn't stop glancing at the gaping hole within the black one's chest. Tears flowed down his puffy cheeks as his eyes made contact with dark red one's. It took the nine year old almost fifteen minutes to drag his father's body into this warehouse from the middle of the street. The little boy had brought his father into a small supply closet, and blocked off the door, before helping his father sit with his back against the wall. No words were said as the young one released his father's hand in order to climb on to his lap. His father looked down at him with knowing eyes as he wrapped both arms around his son's small trembling body. He knew that his son would have to go on without him to find his way back to their camp and that saddened him greatly. Never in the hundreds of years that he lived did he think this would happen. To leave his only son to defend himself against many great dangers but he has no choice. He should have been more careful, should have kept him closer, but he didn't. And now here he is in a closet, slowly bleeding to death because of the shotgun wound to the chest, with his little baby boy in his arms.
"Silver?" The ebony hedgehog called softly and the little hedgehog looked up at his father, "I want you to go on without me okay?"
"But I don't want to leave this place alone daddy." Silver replied softly as he hugged his father tightly. The black hedgehog hissed in pain but covered it up with a small playful smirk towards his son.
"I know and I don't want to have to leave you all alone but someone has to stay behind to fight off all the bad monsters." Silver nodded as he looked away from his father and snuggled into his chest not caring if his fur gets stained by his father's blood.
"Silver, you remember the lessons I gave you on handling and using guns?"
"Yes daddy." The older hedgehog leaned forward and reached behind him with one arm as he continued to hold his son with the other. He pulled out every weapon he had on him along with his wallet out of his back quills before leaning back again.
"If you remember than I want you too take this gun apart and tell me what each part is called as you put it back together." Silver nodded as his father picked up a black nine-millimeter and held it out before him. The ivory hedgehog took the gun from his father's strong hands and slowly began to take it apart like his father would. His father took everything piece that his son held out to him and laid it out on the floor as he watched him take it apart with sturdy fingers. When it was fully apart, his father handed him random parts and Silver said what it was called and what it was for before explaining the proper way to shoot.
The black hedgehog nodded at his son in approval before having him turn around. He stuffed as many smaller guns as possible into the quills on Silver's back. Silver wiped his face as he turned back around to look at his father. His father took hold of his face in both hands before resting his forehead against his. His big yellow eyes showed every emotion he felt as they looked into the dimming scarlet red one's.
"You won't be coming home, will you daddy?" Silver asked already knowing the answer to his question. His father looked away from his son's innocent face.
"I don't think so, baby." He finally replied with a broken tone.
"Are you going to go to heaven?"
"I don't know but I hope so." He answered looking back at him.
"Mommy said that all good souls go to heaven, so you must be going." His father chuckled weakly at this.
"Your old man wasn't always good Silver, I have a past that is much darker than most." The young hedgehog frowned at his father's protest.
