"Sweetheart please stop pacing." Bucky says.

"Yeah, you're making me dizzy." Sam, your brother adds.

"It's been a week. A whole week since Steve left to return the Stones."

"He said he'll be back. And he left me in charge of his shield." Sam says. Bucky grabs your arm to stop you.

"Steve's a big boy. He can handle himself. Don't worry." Bucky wraps his arms around you and presses a kiss to your head. "You'll get wrinkles." You roll your eyes.

"I'm not worried. I'm pissed." You run your nails against the lines on his metal arm.

"Bucky's right." Sam says. "He'll be fine." You look at your brother and at your boyfriend.

"Screw this." You grab your keys.

"Where are you going?" Sam asks.

"To drag America's Asshole back here by his perfect teeth."

~

"Alright just be sure to return—"

"At this exact moment. I know Bruce." You say.

"Be careful sis." Sam says.

"Always am." Bucky looks at you.

"I love you." You kiss him.

"I love you too Bubba." You pull a gun from your waistband and cock it.

"What's that for?" Bruce asks.

"Insurance."

"Wait, the suit!" Bruce remembers.

"Fuck the suit. Beam me up Scotty."

Peggy looks for a book to read on the bookshelf when she hears frantic knocking on the front door. She sighs and goes over to the door. When she opens it, she sees you standing there. She can tell you're from the future just by the way you're dressed: a white turtleneck tucked into your black jeans, wearing a black duster and black chunky lace up ankle boots.

"Can I help you?" She asks.

"I need to see him." She steps aside and you walk in. It's a cute little house, you observe, if you're into that sort of thing. Everything is in its place. It looks like something out of a magazine. It's just... perfect.

"Steve!" She calls out. "It's for you!" He comes in from another room dressed in a plaid shirt and khakis and you can feel the anger and rage swell inside you.

"Y/N." He says, shocked. "What are you—" he doesn't have time to finish his sentence before you pistol whip him in the face, knocking him to the floor. You hear Peggy cock a gun behind you and you quickly turn around, your gun pointing at hers.

"I think you should leave now."

"Not a chance." She wraps her finger tightly around the trigger. "I wouldn't. I've seen your records Peggy and trust me, I'm a better shot than you."

"Let's find that out shall we?"

"Oh I'd be happy to." You grin.

"Ladies." Steve groans. "Enough." He gets off the floor. "Peggy put the gun down."

"But she—"

"Drop it." You smirk and flick your eyebrow. Peggy puts the gun on the table and you put yours away. "What was that for?" He asks you.

"You awful, awful bastard." You say to him. "It's been a week since you left. You were just supposed to return the Stones and come right back and instead you're here playing house."

"He's not playing anything." Peggy says.

"Shut up. This doesn't concern you." You snap. "You had no intention of coming back did you? That's why you gave my brother your shield."

"Y/N, I—"

"When were you planning on telling us? Huh? When you're 100 years old and wrinkly and we're standing by your deathbed? I mean did you even think what this would do to us? To Bucky?"

"You look fine. And Bucky... he's strong. He has you. He can go on without me."

"He can but he doesn't want to. That's the point Steve. Every time someone walks by that looks remotely like you, he has to stop and stare and I can see the sadness pouring out of his face like Niagara goddamn Falls. He hasn't smiled since you left. He looks like he's aged 100 more years. The way you felt when Bucky was dusted is exactly how he feels right now."

"I just wanted to get my life back."

"You have a life Steve. A new one. With us in 2023."

"The big threat was over Y/N. What we were fighting against was finally defeated and I finally got a second chance. To go back and make things right." He looks at Peggy. "To get my dance."

"That's what this was about? A fucking dance?"

"It's more than that... I wanted to be with Peggy."

"I hate to break it to you Steve, but Peggy is dead. She's dead. We went to her funeral and you carried her coffin! And now you want to live out this, this... fantasy. Honestly if you wanted a Carter so bad, you should have just fucked her niece."

"What?" Peggy's head snaps in his direction.

"It's nothing."

"Oh really?" You raise your eyebrow.

"We just kissed—"

"You kissed my niece?"

"Great niece." You clarify.

"I'll explain later. Tony got to live his life, get married and have a kid so why can't I?"

"Because Tony didn't have to time travel to get it! She was right there by his side." Steve sighs.

"Look Y/N, you have to understand that this is what I want. What I've wanted for a long time. I'm gonna marry Peggy and we're going to live our lives together."

"So let me get this straight. You would rather give up me and Sam, two people who consider you like family and your lifelong friend who has been with you through everything, you're gonna give all of that up for some pussy?" You scoff. "Alright. Fine. It's a good thing you gave up your shield. Cause after this, it means nothing in your hands now." You turn around and head towards the door before stopping. "You must be really special Margaret."

"Why do you say that?"

"Because it's finally been made clear that you're it." She gives you a confused look.

"I'm what?"

"The end of the line." You look at him. "If you have a way to come back, don't. Enjoy your 'second chance.' Goodbye Steve." You step out of the door and out of Steven Grant Rogers' life forever.
