A much needed chapter, this is an Interlude as this is not the continuation of the previous chapter, however this is a collection of Arnav's thoughts & feelings.
Arnav's POV (in Italics):
Life was pleasant until Anjali's wedding four years ago. Her impetuous decision of marriage with a Jha brought home a bunch of disasters...which we were absolutely ignorant about..I can't blame Di completely...she was a pawn in their hands...this plan was set in motion way before...she just made it easier for them...
Things slowly started looking sinister as I perceived the discrepancies in accounts...It was a bad idea having Shyam as a part of AR legal team, and Jatin as a junior accountant in finance department.
Then they realized that I had noticed.
I will always remember the day of the accident...it's etched in my memory forever...not just because of my accident...but because of the shocking betrayal and the cold-blooded murder.
Arnav was lost in the thoughts of his accident:
Arnav was in the car driven by their driver Kishan on their way back from Bombay. As they got close to Narmada river valley, they were hit by a truck.
The car spun with the impact and Arnav was thrown out, but Kishen was still in the car, even though bruised and hurt.
Landing on the rocks at the side of the road, Arnav tried hard to pull himself up.
His head burst, he couldn't see, but he could clearly hear them.
There were two guys who got down from the truck; One walked to Arnav and hit him hard with a blunt object. Arnav could hear his ribs crack with excruciating pain.
He heard Kishan calling out for him, "Chote Saab"
Even in that haze, Arnav remembered thinking clearly, this is no accident, they are here with a purpose...
A gruff voice close to him spoke, "he is not dead yet, what should I do?"
The most shocking was the other voice that answered, young yet familiar, "Don't leave him alive, throw him into the valley; I will take care of the driver here, I don't want any evidence left"
Arnav struggled, he tried shouting; he just couldn't. He heard whooshing of a bat, sound of crushed bones, an yelp of pain and there was silence from Kishen. Arnav realized that Kishen Kaka was no more.
