y/n had finally found something cool for she and ellie to do while joel was out scavenging. it took her all day to find them , but it was worth it.

she thought that water guns would be fun, considering that it was getting warmer and they were bored... she wanted to surprise ellie with what she had found.

y/n walked into the room and saw ellie sitting in a corner reading a comic that joel had recently found. she was so intrigued with those comics lately, it was like she hadn't even left that corner.

y/n rolled her eyes as she stopped in front of ellie. she glanced up at the girl, confused, until y/n spoke.

"look what i found!" y/n waved the water guns in the air, showing ellie, whose face fell instantly. this caused the girl with the water guns to stop what she was doing and look at the redhead in concern.

"are you okay? what's wrong..?" she asked, kneeling down in front of ellie.

ellie shook her head, averting her eyes to anywhere but y/n.

"riley and i used to play with those... it was one of the things we did before she died..."

y/n was shocked. she knew about riley, but she had no idea about the water guns. the girl frowned, not really knowing what to do. she didn't mean to do something so insensitive, knowing how close ellie and riley seemed to be... she just wanted to have a little fun.

"oh gosh, ellie- i'm so sorry! if i had known i wouldn't have-"

ellie sighed and looked down, starting to mumble, "it's fine. this isn't your fault. it just reminds me of her and.. i miss her. that's all."

"i understand. we've all been through losses," y/n tried to reassure, wrapping her arms around ellie to at least give her comfort.

it was silent for a few seconds, neither girl not really wanting to say anything, but just staying like that. to ellie, it was nice to be in y/n's arms..

y/n pulled away from the hug, now staring at ellie. "we don't have to do this. i'll just go put them away-"

"no, keep them. it's war now."

though, ellie seemed to be fine, y/n wasn't so sure if it was the fact that she didn't want to make her feel bad, or just to simply have fun. but she needed to make sure that everything was okay for sure.

"are you sure about this ellie? you're really good..?"

"i'm fine, y/n. besides, i've been in this corner all day. might as well have some kind of fun,"

y/n smiled and handed a water gun to ellie.
